Publisher's Summary

People often think of Job sitting on the ash heap, his life in shambles. But how did he get there? What was Job's life like before tragedy struck? What did he think as his world came crashing down around him? And what was life like after God restored his wealth, health, and family?

Through painstaking research and a writer's creative mind, Mesu Andrews weaves an emotional and stirring account of this well-known story told through the eyes of the women who loved him. Drawing together the account of Job with those of Esau's tribe and Jacob's daughter Dinah, Love Amid the Ashes breathes life, romance, and passion into the classic biblical story of suffering and steadfast faith.

Great story.

It was hard to follow the story breaks and i had to push the 30 second repeat often. The recording did not allow for transitions. Because it was such a good story, I pressed on, but it was difficult throughout.

I loved this story.

I will look for others by Mesu Andrews. I love biblical stories and even though fiction, I saw the Bible all through it. I will recommend to friends and family.

Love Amid the Ashes

I really enjoy biblical fiction—not as much as I love the Bible—but it somehow causes me to want to study the Bible more. This tale had me very curious about how Diana would meet up with Job. In the end, the author shows her research so it isn’t such a stretch of the imagination. It was a lovely story of perseverance and faith along with some love stories as well. Light reading for these challenging times we presently face.

I didn’t want to quit listening... it makes me want to do more research into the Old Testament.

Culturally flawed

I understand the writer tries to create a story that happened thousands of years ago. The interaction however between man and women is just too western minded and culturally impossible. Also what nerved me in this story was that Jacob is portrayed as an unforgiving nasty old man who acts cold and heartless towards his daughter Dina. This is an insult to the real meek person of Jacob who is a type of the Messiah. Book is quite boring at points and just not trustworthy, as the women here are the “saviours” of Job. Not recommended at all.

Good

The book was good but FOR ME it was hard to follow. I am not familiar with the story of Job so I got confused 1/2 way through.

This is just me because of my lack of knowledge.

Thoroughly Worthwhile

Loved it, and enjoyed the imagination which goes with it as it seems so close to the truth.

Positively inspired.

Beautiful imagination with a basis in biblical truth. Best narrator I have heard yet. Every voice was distinctive. Characters came to life. I did have to go back and review the line of Isaiah to gain a better grasp of the relatives. I will read this book again. Phenomenal.

Very interesting

I thought this book was written very well. I enjoyed it and while you know some of it is embellished when it’s finished the author then explains why she wrote it this way and how she came to some conclusions.

Great Narrator and Mesu Andrews is excellent

The best part of this book is the short excerpts or quotes from the Bible regarding Job and his family. It combines Fiction with non-Fiction, but makes the book of Job come alive- I almost ask myself why there hasn’t been more attempts like this one by other authors to break down Job’s humanity. Ms. Andrews does a wonderful and convincing job.

Another dimension to Job’s life

A well researched and written story. The author has written with heart & depth, drawing on the strengths and weaknesses of the various people, to bring the Biblical account of Job alive in a way I’ve never read it before. Although it was a little slow to start with, it soon riveted my attention and became very hard to put down. This is the first book I’ve read by Mesu Andrews, but she has now become a favourite author and I am looking forward to starting another of her books.
