Publisher's Summary

BDSM Erotic Romance

After Kari breaks up with her date during Beginner's Night at Club Shadowlands, she's given the option to continue with an experienced dominant. Despite her steamy fantasies about BDSM, the inexperienced schoolteacher plans to simply observe. Yet under the unyielding hands of Master Dan, she not only participates, but gives him everything he asks for. There is nothing she can hide from him. Not her passion - or her love.

Still mourning the death of his wife, Master Dan avoids getting involved with women and he never takes a sub twice. But this modest little beginner is such a sweetie, one night is far from enough. As he plumbs her responses, taking her ever deeper into the world of BDSM, the gentle submissive begins to show him how barren his life has become and what a dark citadel he's made of his heart.

During their three nights together, the teacher will learn to submit - can she teach the master to love?

Can you say a doormat female lead?

Would you try another book from Cherise Sinclair and/or Noah Michael Levine?

Yes, I generally like both the author and narrator. The very weak lead just made me angry. Nobody should be treated like she was!

What could Cherise Sinclair have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She should have worked harder to make her more believable

Which character – as performed by Noah Michael Levine – was your favorite?

He did a good job, didn't really have a favourite

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The female character was really disappointing

This time it's the "Dom" who vacillates...

The "sub" (Kari) is a generally brave and strong person through at least half the story, then she inexplicably turns into a complete and utter doormat. The "dom" (Dan) is an asshole throughout, hurting Kari with rejections over and over again, while she's at her most vulnerable (a point to which he takes care to bring her each time, in the guise of teaching her about BDSM). Plus, Z's something of an asshole in this book.

I will never understand why it is considered "strong" for a man/Dom to refuse to try again after a partner's death or betrayal, yet women (generally subs) are seen as weaker or needing protection from the big bad world even when they put themselves out there over and over again, risking being hurt in order to find love.

*************** Spoilers Ahead ***************

In this heroine's case, though, going back with the hero in order to be kicked in the proverbial teeth for a third and /fourth/ time, and then fold after a "you're mine!" and a weak-ass "I'm sorry" from the hero after the FOURTH such rejection just makes her an unmitigated DOORMAT, and the hero an unmistakable ASSHOLE.

Also, the way Z is portrayed in this book shows him up as an insensitive asshole, asking Kari to help Dan get over himself at her own expense, AFTER she's been rejected by his friend not once, not twice, but FOUR different times in the course of 3 "training" dates at the club. So much for "Master Z protects everyone in the club, especially submissives".

Sweet and sexy meets tall, dark, and handsome

Dan has been a Shadowland Master for years, and he’s notorious for his ‘just for one night’ rule.
School teacher Kari has come to the club to find out why she never seems to click with a man.
When these two are thrust together—with a little help from Master Z something sparks, but Dan is set in his ways and Kari might be just too shy and modest for this lifestyle.

Excellent narrated by Noah Michael Levine.

Love!

Love the series and the narrator! The characters feel like friends and you can't wait to get to the next book. The narrator has such a range you forget you're only listening to one person read. I've listened to this series before, still can't wait to get to the next book!

Awesome series into the BDSM world...

This is my second time starting this series... so I have gone all the way to the end. And, I can tell you, what an awesome ride!!!

This is a great series welcoming you into the BDSM world. It's all DOMs and SUBs... and lots of orgasms.

The narration is just perfect. Brought the books to life.

I'm confident you will enjoy this series. Keep a tab on all the characters as they come and go in all the books.

I loved it

Master Dan is such a jerk. Kari just wants someone to want her. So she gets stuck with the biggest jerk in the club. He has walls put up taller than the great wall of China. She won't give up and will push every limit just to soften him up. Will it be enough?

omg

An enjoyable read but quite a light story.

I read this after the first in the Shadowlands series but I think it would stand alone. It does have continuing characters on the periphery but there are no major spoilers.
I found the sex scenes were well written and erotic, and the story flowed well. I liked Kari and that she is not a skinny woman but I did find one or two of the scenes a bit on the edge of consensual, as she was quite doubtful at times. and safe word or no her newness to the scene wasn't taken into account and there wasn't for me enough checking in, although she always seemed to enjoy it in the end.
Dan was very masterful but I did find his guilty feelings and self-recriminations a bit overblown. Having said that it wasn't off-putting and everyone grieves in their own time. This book is about pushing boundaries finding and acknowledging their own inner needs and wants. I enjoyed it a lot.
For my latest re-read I listened to the Audiobook which I thought was very good, and brought the book to life.

Brilliant!

Another excellent story in the shadowlands series - I cant wait to read/listen to all of the others!!
Loved how sweet Carrie is and how wonderful a Dom Dan is even though he has a huge element in his past to over come. Love the other doms that make appearances in the book including the wonderful Master Z
Highly recommended!
