Story
Z’s day begins with sadness. A phone call from a dying friend leaves psychologist Zachary Grayson determined to fulfill the old survivalist’s request - a send-off that will comfort his grieving sons. And then, it turns deadly. The death threat is only the beginning because the letter isn’t a hoax. Z walks out of his office into a barrage of bullets. He can take being shot at, but when the second shot splinters the empty child seat in his car, he’s shaken to the core. The horror of what would have happened if his little girl had been there spurs him to action.

His code name was Tempest, and his enemy caught him. Stratus did unspeakable things to him until, out of his mind, he prayed for death — but he’d never broken faith with his brothers. God, how he wished they knew that. He had not compromised them. He’d told Stratus nothing. Cast aside as useless, left to starve or die of his injuries, his broken body lay in a bare cell, forgotten, and Tempest knew his prayer for the end would be answered shortly. Until her. She made him want to live — if only to help her escape.

As a Shadow, Asp planned his assassinations with meticulous care. His work required one thing - that the Council direct his kills. The coded target became a "sanctioned hit”, and that distinction was vital. His most recent assignment took him to a remote area of the Andes Mountains in Colombia. He completed his assassination according to plan - more or less - but no amount of careful planning could have prepared him for the dire circumstances he found himself in.

Publisher's Summary
In the Alaska wilderness, four streetwise boys became men...and brothers. Now, the crazy ex-military survivalist who plucked Gabriel and three other boys from an abusive foster care home has died. But the sarge leaves them a final mission: to revive the dying town of Rescue.
Gabe is done with being a hero. Wounded in body and soul, the retired SEAL simply wants to remain holed up in his isolated cabin. He sure doesn’t want to be chief of police in some defunct town. But he has his orders.
Audrey needs a place to hide. After the Chicago librarian discovers a horrendous crime, she wakes to an assassin in her bedroom. Injured and terrified, she flees, covering her trail every inch of the way. New name, new ID, new home. As Audrey learns to survive in Rescue, she begins to fall for the town...and the intimidating chief of police who protects it.
Can the shy introvert and the deadly police chief find a life together?
Despite the discord in town, Gabe is finding his own peace with the quiet young woman who seems to have no past. She’s adorable, caring, and so very lost. But how can he trust someone who lies to him with every breath she takes?
"Cherise Sinclair is my go to author when I want a satisfying read. Heat, emotion, suspense. She’s got it all." (The NYT best-selling author Lexi Blake)

Loved the story!
I love this author and while this book isn't like her normal BDSM novels, Not a Hero is a great read. While situations are a bit tamer, the hero is 100% Alpha and made for a hot read.
Our heroine is on the run from a professional killer. You might ask yourself how a librarian could get on a hit man's murder list, but let's just say Audrey likes to research...a lot. For me, I love doing research, but not enough to attract murderers. It's a good thing she does have a lot of knowledge because it keeps her alive. She does a wonderful job at making a new name for herself, all the way to Alaska.
Our hero, knows Audrey is hiding something, right from the get go. He's former military and the town's sheriff, so it's only to be expected. As things go down in the town, Gabe and Audrey sort of drift toward each other. Eventually, it grows into more and the declarations are thrown about.
I enjoyed the audio version of this book. I loved that it was a dual narration. Both narrators really made the characters come alive. Both had pleasant voices and will have me looking for both their names, the next time I am in the mood for another audio book. The pacing was spot on and I couldn't have asked for any better.

Who doesn’t love an alpha?
Two decades ago, a retired military man saved 4 foster boys from a perverted foster parent. He took them to live with him in a small Alaskan town, among survivalists. Now he’s dead and has requested that his ‘sons’ help rebuild the town. Enter the oldest, Gabe...ex-military, ex-merc, and ex-LAPD cop. He’s been voted in as the new Chief of Police...a department with one patrol officer. Gabe’s not too excited about the new job but he’s giving it a shot. Now, if only he wasn’t attracted to the new woman in town...the woman whom, he was certain, was hiding secrets. Audrey is on the run from a killer. She’s made her way to a tiny Alaskan town hoping that she can remain hidden until the killer is caught. Audrey aka Juliet, didn’t plan on her attraction to the police chief. Can there be an HEA for the man who hates secrets and the woman with many?
Not everyone approves of the town’s revitalization, will this pose a danger to both Gabe and Audrey? I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series. The narration team did an excellent job with all of the characters. Highly recommend this book.
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story will capture your heart
Being a foster mom, I loved hearing how the boys were taken in from the foster system. I was hooked from the beginning. Gabe likes to keep to himself until Juliette arrives. Juliette, AKA Audrey, is on the run and in hiding. Gabe has the instincts of a hero and helps her out, even though he knows nothing about her. Gabe's brothers add depth to knowing Gabe and I like what they add to the story. I really enjoyed the many different aspects of this story. Boys in foster care, left to help out a failing town. A runaway with a hidden past and a veteran, trying hard not to be a hero. This story captured my heart and I could not put it down.
Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are a wonderful narrating team. They bring the characters to life. I loved Ongel's performance of Juliette. She is a strong woman, protecting those that she loves. Ongel brought out that strength and made Juliette real. Thom brings out the roughness in Gabe with his baritone voice. Thom narrated Gabe exactly as I imagined him. I always enjoy this teams narration and look forward to hearing more from them.

Love this series! So glad she's making them available now on audible. Anxiously waiting for all of the brothers to find their own love. I definitely prefer the extremely hot alpha males of this series over the BDSM and sex club scenarios of this author's other works.

Great story, great narration
When I heard that Cherise Sinclair was releasing a new series I was beside myself with excitement. Whenever I see the name Cherise Sinclair, it is an automatic purchase. This book was totally brilliant, from start to finish. I didn’t want to put it down and was so annoyed when real life conspired to stop me from reading it in one session.
I have always loved the characters that Ms. Sinclair writes about, the way she develops and layers them and her story lines are amazing.
Set in a small town in Alaska, Not a Hero ticked all the boxes for me. Gabe and his band of adopted brothers Bull, Caz and Hawk are characters that I cannot wait to learn more about . This was Gabe and Audrey's story and what a story it was.
Not a Hero was at times a hard book to read. Emotional and inspiring it was great to see Gabe and Audrey confront their pasts and together forge a new path to happiness, they both deserved it.
This was a fabulous start to a new series and I am excited to see what Ms.Sinclair has in store. Thank you Cherise Sinclair for yet another masterpiece, it was superbly written and I LOVED it.
The narration by Thor Tom and Charley Ongel was engaging and added an extra layer to my enjoyment of this story.

Romantic suspense at it's best!
A mix of suspense, family, love and Alaska, and Cherise Sinclair can do no wrong! This is the kind of story I love the most, and it was the perfect listen! Gabe met his brothers while in foster care, and have stayed together. Gabe is now retired from the military, and while he keeps to himself has been appointed Chief of Police. Now Juliette(Audrey) comes to town, and there is just something about her. He feels the need to protect her. She is on the run, but from what is the question. Now the story takes off. Gabe is the ultimate hero, with his gruff manner and over protective nature. His brothers add some humor in, and let us see sides of all three that make us love the story. Audrey is so strong, something I love about her. She is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the people around her safe as well as herself. The story is full of suspense and steam and I look forward to Sinclair's next story in this series.
Narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel , we are treated to their interpretation of the story. Thom's deep baritone is Gabe through and through. He oozes that alpha over protectiveness and add warmth and love to his voice when with Audrey. Ongel creates Audrey with an independent streak, very strong yet very vulnerable. I love this team and enjoy their narrations and chemistry each time I pick up one of their audios.

Great book from Sinclair
Why Sinclair has written 26 mediocre BDSM-books I will never understand !
This one is in top 30 of all my books (800+) !
If you like a good thriller, with some romance/erotic sprinkling this is a brilliant edition.
And Thom and Ongel are doing a perfect job of making the main characters come alive, very well done !!!

No fear in the writing style
I love books written so brutally! Cherise shows no fear in the storyline of this book. It’s brutal and honest. Excellent narration from both Charley and Tor.

Great start to a new series
This was my first book by this author and I think I’m hooked! I loved this story and these characters. It is set in a small up and coming town in Alaska. Not A Hero is the first in a new series which follows four “brothers” who were rescued and raised by a crazy ex-military survivalist.
“Don’t wait for someone to hand over a red cape and call you a hero. Jump the f*** in.”
I listened to this story on audiobook and loved having the story read to me. It really put me right into the story and the setting.
Great narration!

A fantastic Hero of a listen
Book 1 in a series. This story but the author is complex , lots of levels and a fantastic romance. The main characters are strong, they know what why want in life .
Hero is Gabe. Heroine is Audrey aka Julie .
Gabe grew up in Alaska , Gabe was saved by a bad situation by a Sargent who took him in . Gabe had a rough life with now an ex wife . Meanwhile Audrey needs to stay hidden because some bad men are after her . Audrey changes everything about herself , she even gets a job that nobody would think about , a librarian . Both of them meet up and slowly the 2 start to fall for each other and they save each other
Both performance by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel was fantastic. They did the characters great . The voices were strong, smooth and steady .

dust cover showed a great story
unfortunately, for me this didn't hit the mark. it had a great storyline and I was so eager to sink my teeth in. but all I got was nibbles after nibbles. the author set the hero and heroine beautifully but then led us to a garden party....
then the climax was almost flatline.
I've listened to Tor before and I liked him in that story but this one? oh boy, did not work as all.
as for charley a 1st time listen for me but not good at all. I think if there were better narrator's then this story may have floated. but for me..it sunk!!!!
