Publisher's summary

Next to The Bible, The Pilgrim's Progress has probably been more widely read than any other book in the English language, and rightfully so. It is considered by most critics as the greatest allegory in any language. And to think that it was written by a jailed tinker who received very little formal education.

This is the enthralling account of a Christian's epic journey. With a burden on his back, Christian reads a book that tells him that the city in which he and his family dwell will be set ablaze. Christian flees from the City of Destruction and journeys through the Slough of Despond, the Interpreter's House, the House Beautiful, the Valley of Humiliation, the Valley of the Shadow of Death, Vanity Fair, Doubting Castle, and the Delectable Mountains, and finally reaches the Celestial City.

Theology in an Allegorical Nugget

Very solid theological teaching. Fresh perspective from most sermons today. The only bad thing about the audio is that you miss the nuances of some of Bunyan's character names that you'd be able to catch seeing it in print.

Change of pace

Not exactly riveting stuff, with no car chases, CIA double agents or political scheming. It's well worth a listen when you need a change of pace. Whether you're a deeply-religous Christian, vaguely Christian, of another religion, agnostic or atheist, if you want a relaxing, thought-provoking listen, this is worth a download.

I thougholy enjoyed listening to this book. I've seen a movie about the pilgrims progress. It's good to hearing the whole story.

A Timeless Classic

I must read for all Christians. Proof of the beautiful Solid Faith of past Generations who held forth the Cross until it was time for us to grasp.

Fantastic Delivery!

I was amazed by the narrator. wow. He did such a great job with the Old English and made it sound normal. And he is a master at character voicings. Every character has a unique voice and personality. So easy to follow with so many characters.

In terms of the story, Part I was fantastic. I really loved the depictions and characterization of the Christian's journey. A lot of theology told in a story and in imaging that was wonderfully approachable. Part II was alright. Not as hard-hitting and convicting as Part I.

I would 100% recommend listening to this performance of John Bunyan's Classic.

(Seriously, Robert Whitfield was amazing!)

Best of the best

Oh how I would that all men would take to heart what the preacher had to say in his dream! I have tried other John Bunyan audio books with little success due to the narrator, but this narrator did a great job catching the spirit and tones intended. I will be listening again and with my family, and we will take time to discuss and digest the various characters and situations, I believe all Christians need to read their Bible and then Pilgrims progress if they want to live a real Christian life!
