Publisher's Summary

Laurie Gelman's clever debut about a year in the life of a kindergarten class mom - a brilliant send-up of the petty and surprisingly cutthroat terrain of parent politics.

Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

From recording parents' response times to her emails about helping in the classroom to requesting contributions of "special" brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen's methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen's past, a hypersensitive "allergy mom", a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife wannabe causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.

Relatable, irreverent, and hilarious in the spirit of Maria Semple, this is a fresh, welcome voice in fiction - the kind of audiobook that real moms clamor for and a vicarious listen for all mothers, who will be laughing as they are liberated by Gelman's acerbic truths.

Save your money!

I am a teacher and yes I have also been a classroom mom. This book is so unrealistic it's not even funny. There are parts that don't even make sense. The beginning was funny but half way through I couldn't wait to finish.

Don't waste your audible credit!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR AUDIBLE CREDIT! There is a reason authors hire others to narrate their books. This author reads her own book and her voice is super scratchy and annoying. Surprised at the other ratings that this was a good book. Very entry level book, poorly written and is more like two moms having a convo with dry humor. Very disappointed that this was recommended from audible.

So Much Fun for the Right Kind of Person

A little snark + a lot of sarcasm + mom + wife = me. As a brand new class mom for my first Kinder, I thought this book would be a fun read. I almost never read fiction, but I decided to give biographies and self-development books a rest and listen to something that caught my attention, that couldn't have been more timely. I'm so glad I did it! It might not be for moms who take themselves or the job of class mom very seriously, but if you think you can relate at all after hearing the sample or reading the synopsis -- do it! You'll find yourself laughing out loud and wondering if you could be so brave as to write the same sort of emails the main character does. It left me wanting more... when do we get 1st-12th grade? I might even take a chance on another fiction read.... maybe :)

CLASS MOM is beyond hysterical - totally recommend

Everyone has their own opinion and hands down mine is that I LOVED the story & the author's narration. Then again I'm her target audience...I'm a 45+ y/o working class mom with one kid in grammar school and an older kid in college. My voice and hers also sound identical (I grew up in NYC and now live in suburban NJ), so maybe that's why I connected with her so much. Not to mention that I've put up with a ton of BS from many other class parents that whine that they don't like how I'm handling things but can't be bothered to get involved.

I haven't laughed out loud this hard since I listened to Maria Semple's audiobook "Where'd you go Bernadette?"
I totally recommend Laurie Gelman's audiobook for an fun read from start to finish.....listening to the author narrate it was a bonus since she really was perfect
