"Angela Dawe's narration makes YA author Elle Cosimano's debut novel for grown-ups a wild and funny romp...Dawe offers Cosimano's laugh-out-loud moments with just the right sparkle." (AudioFile Magazine)

IT’S MURDER BEING A HIT-MOM

"Getting the job done" for one single mom takes on a whole new meaning in Finlay Donovan is Killing It, a deliciously witty adult debut - the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano.

FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT...except, she’s really not. The new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head.

When Finlay’s overheard discussing the plot of her new novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet...and she soon discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart.

So fun!

I loved this audiobook. The narrator is awesome and the story is delightful! It was smart, laugh out loud funny, and full of twists and turns. The premise is a bit like the show Breaking Bad - ie a normal person and their sidekick enter a life of crime without really meaning to get into the crazy, escalating situations they find themselves in. Loved it and didn’t want it to end!

The narrator’s voice is making it hard to finish!

The story is great but the narrator’s voice is AWFUL when she’s reading as anyone other than Finlay. Literally toe-curling terrible. I am about to buy the book so I don’t have to finish listening to this terrible voice!

OMG!!

OMG!! This book will have you laughing, gasping, guessing and sitting on the edge of your seat for the next twist and turn of events. Make sure you have plenty of free time because once you start you won’t want to stop until you’ve finished. Waiting until February for the next one is going to be torture! Don’t waste time debating if it’s worth using a credit or purchasing it… just do it already!

Fun, Smart, Fantastic Mystery

The book was brilliant and funny with just enough twists to keep you guessing.

Angela Dawe captured Finlay’s voice and really brought the audio to life. Great voice.

Definitely need to find more books by Elle Cosimano.

Meh

This started out well - funny, fresh, and interesting. By the middle it had become ridiculous and kept getting worse. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

The main character is a frumpy single mom with a failing writing career and money problems. She unwittingly or accidentally commits crimes for money and then deals with the fallout via ridiculous twists. She describes herself as a bit of a slob in dress and appearance, but somehow not 1 but 2 gorgeous men want her. She of course opts for the young bartender/underwear model/lawyer in training who "sees through her disguise" and is in love with her based on a conversation consisting of a drink order and directions. He says she is "easy to talk to"....umm how hard is it to take a drink order and point to a table in the back of the room? He is completely unfazed when all her lies and crimes are revealed. Ugh.

A Hilarious Hit Gone Awry

Struggling single mom Finlay Donovan gets mistaken for a hit woman. All hell breaks loose in fantastic hilarity.

As a constantly sticky mom of toddlers, I identified with Finley Donovan from the very first sentence of the book. Fortunately, that’s where our similarities ended. She goes on to make colossally horrible decisions but instead of detracting from the story, they enhanced the ensuing circus of events. There were some glaringly unbelievable elements, especially when it came to Findlay’s involvement in every aspect of the storyline. All in all, Cosimano somehow stacks these silly concepts together and makes a house of cards that precariously but defiantly stands on its own. Fast paced and entertaining, it was an enjoyable read, fondly reminding me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonovich.

Audiobook This was a great narration. Dawe’s rendition fits Finlay perfectly. She has amazing character definition! I knew exactly who was speaking before being told so.

What is up with these 1&2 star reviews?

First of all, I just want to say that I am a library clerk for a small library, and almost every single one of our patrons loves this book. I couldn't find time to read it, but I am so glad I decided to listen to it here because the narrator was amazing by herself. The variety of voices for each character made me smile, and the emotion and expression that she put into each one was incredible.
And for the book itself, some people are saying that it's unrealistic. And of course it is. How many stories have you heard of single moms accidentally becoming contract killers? However, the reason I read this book is because of how funny everyone said that it was. I mean, she's really just a mom who's trying to do her best, and the punches just keep on coming. But she really had a sense of humor about all of it. To be honest, there were a couple of parts that I didn't even see coming. I thought the writing was fantastic to the very end, and the characters' personalities were very well thought out and thoughtfully written.
Absolutely incredible!

Cute, but unrealistic

The characters are well-developed and I like the whole woman power vibe of the book, but the plot was a bit fantastical.

Couldn’t get past the narrator

Tried listening three times, but I found the narrator’s over enunciation and hard consonants along with the whiny protagonist annoying so I returned it after a couple of chapters.

Ridiculous

What a unrealistic story!
Narrator was good but the plot is over-the-top ridiculous.
