Story
My life was going just fine by most standards. I ran a successful business in a tight-knit magical community, and lived just blocks from a beautiful lake and series of hiking trails. Then Selene showed up. According to some magical code I inherit my aunt's ancient familiar; a grumpy ten-pound cat with a broken filter. She fancies herself something of a saber-toothed tiger, and claims to have wrestled the thread of her ninth life from the hands of the Fates themselves—although, I'm pretty sure that last part isn't true. Almost positive.

Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

And in the winter, skiers and snowboarders take over the mountains. Season by season, year after year, time passes, and the lies, like the aspens and evergreens that surround the town, take root and spread deep. Now, someone has uncovered the lies, and it is his murder that continues a chain of events that began almost 40 years ago.

Story
It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

I can't say they didn't warn me. Right now, I realize: I probably should have listened. Because if there's anyone who has no business playing a sport that requires a helmet, pads, and a liability waiver, it's this girl. The same girl who once knocked herself out during a game of backyard baseball. I stepped up to the plate, pulled the bat back a little too far to swing, and clocked myself in the back of the skull. Boom. Lights Out Lucy. That's how I got my roller derby name. So yeah. Maybe I should have known better.

Obsessed with this series
I binged the four books in this series!(I really hope Julie makes more) Armed with a glitter, glue and sass; Lacy is such a great sleuth. This is such a good series, once I finished one I wanted to read the next. The mystery was great, the story gave us lots of people who you think may be the murderer, and wrapped up really well.

Such a fun ride!
I had so much fun listening to this story. The characters are cute and quirky and likeable. The main character is fun and smart and I totally binged the whole thing in a day. Also, I’m super picky about narration and really enjoyed Brittany’s reading!

Cat Got Your Diamonds
Wow a real surprise ending. Enjoyed the read. The interaction between characters and story line was very interesting. Kept me reading. Hope to enjoy more of this series.

Fun and pleasant
Really quite fun albeit with a somewhat convoluted plot. Very pleasant voice and reading performance. I will surely read the other books in the series.

Light, lively, thoroughly enjoyable.
Julie Ch has just become one of my favorite authors! And I also enjoyed the narration by Brittany Preslsl
