Publisher's summary

"Narrator January LaVoy brings a richly layered performance to a story.... She expertly handles the large cast of multigenerational characters" —AudioFile on Hideaway

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author's terrifying new thriller about one man's ice-cold malice, and one woman's fight to reclaim her life.

Former Army brat Morgan Albright has finally planted roots in a friendly neighborhood near Baltimore. Her friend and roommate Nina helps her make the mortgage payments, as does Morgan's job as a bartender. But after she and Nina host their first dinner party—attended by Luke, the flirtatious IT guy who'd been chatting her up at the bar—her carefully built world is shattered. The back door glass is broken, cash and jewelry are missing, her car is gone, and Nina lies dead on the floor.

Soon, a horrific truth emerges: It was Morgan who let the monster in. "Luke" is actually a cold-hearted con artist named Gavin who targets a particular type of woman, steals her assets and identity, and then commits his ultimate goal: murder.

What the FBI tells Morgan is beyond chilling. Nina wasn't his type. Morgan is. Nina was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. And Morgan's nightmare is just beginning. Soon she has no choice but to flee to her mother's home in Vermont. While she struggles to build something new, she meets another man, Miles Jameson. He isn't flashy or flirtatious, and his family business has deep roots in town. But Gavin is still out there hunting new victims, and he hasn't forgotten the one who got away.

Loved the new book

I absolutely loved this book! Palms sweating heart rate racing, thriller to the end! Sweet romance, shows what a true family should be like! It has all the wonderful, awesome, brilliant notes of all of Nora Robertses books! I would recommend it to everyone! Totally a 5 out of 5 rating all the way! Please keep up the good work Nora! See you in your next book the inheritance, and in pay back in death! can hardly wait until September! You are my favourite adult, author! I love all of your books! To Nora, happy riding, and thank you for all the books! To my fellow readers, happy reading!

Predictable and not believable

Characters shallow and some contradictory features to their personalities. Story line of how the feds were tracking the perp definitely not believable. Predictable. Just another super human woman story. Getting tired of the … I can do all things on my own power women stories where the men are just our perfect sex objects. Performance was the only bright spot.

Pretty Solid Story

I am glad this story was paired with January LaVoy for narration. She does such a great job of bringing characters to life. Enjoyed this stand alone novel - mystery, romance with a bit of thriller and police procedural mixed in. I hope Roberts revisits this family. Would love to read more.

Another Hit!

I always know when I buy a Nora Roberts book I will get a well written story that takes me into that world for a little while. This one was no exception. One with tears and laughter from the heart. Well done!

Not a “thriller”

Sorry, but nothing thrilling about this book. Reads like a cheap girly beach book. Characters are silly stereotypes,

WOW

This is Nora Roberts at her BEST. The characters are engaging. The plot grabs you in the beginning and never lets go.

Delightful and Romantic

I loved this story; it felt modern and old-fashioned at the same time. The romance was very sweet but I particularly liked the way the main character grew throughout the story

80% worthless drivel

If this is one of Bora Roberts best books, I’ll skip the rest…
LaVoy’s performance was the only reason to listen.

15 hrs of just ok

Something big happened in the middle, then a lot of nothing in between, then the big mediocre ending at the 14th hr mark.
Dissatisfied.
