Catch My Breath

This series contains catchy one-word titles and all work, but none is more appropriate than this one. Breath is essential to life and when it is obstructed – in many different ways – life becomes precarious. Perhaps even deadly. Don’t worry, no one dies in this book, but one of the main characters is dying, each breath a labor-intensive process. Marshall Alcrest is biding time until his life ends. He’s only forty-seven, but a deadly diagnosis sent him into a depression that lead him to cut off many of his old friends. He has a high-powered job that brings minimal satisfaction these days. He’s rich beyond belief and lonely as hell.

Oliver McKellar is an omega in a world dominated by alphas. He’s broke, a little desperate, and looking for a job that will take care of his basic needs. His only sources of true joy are his friend Cedric and his online hookup ‘Alcrest’. Oli has no idea who this man is, but their sexting brings relief to him in more ways than one. Things go well until Oli’s life falls apart. All seems lost until he meets up with Alcrest in real life. Oli is immediately attracted to the older man and their first meeting is…epic. Alcrest, upon hearing of Oli’s run of bad luck, has the impulse to step in and take over. Oli has some pride and wants to hold on to his dignity, so he turns down most of it.

Their texting relationship resumes with some interesting and, in one case, dire results.

Suddenly, though, Marshall has a reason to live. Beyond work, there is someone who needs him. Someone who doesn’t have a plan to succeed him. Now he’s faced with some life-altering decisions, foremost whether it’s worth fighting for.

This is not a depressing book. Ms. Scott brings her snarky banter as well as characters from previous books. I wasn’t lost, though, so no worries if you pick up this final book in the series. I’ve only read book 4 so it’s on my list to go back and read the others. She has a way of making the omega characters strong while also giving them the need to be loved. She gives her alphas nurturing qualities, something that is often missing. These books are light BDSM and I want to emphasize light. It works for those not interested and piques the curiosity of those who are.

Finally, I have to mention Michael Pauley. He’s done a great job with this series and keeps putting out consistent and quality performances. Love his work.

I’m sorry to see the series end but for those who enjoyed it, I recommend the Forbidden Desires series. That’s how I first discovered Ms. Scott’s work and she’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

a real heart tugger, bring tissues

This one is my second favorite of the series. It's loaded with emotions. My heart started melting when it was mentioned Oli fell asleep with the phone in his hand so he didn't miss Marshall's call. I know that feeling and it resonated with me. Oli and Marshall meeting for the first time- I was balling my eyes out!!! The boardroom texts and Marshall passing out- I didn't kniw whether to laugh or cry!!! Oli's announcement of being pregnant to Marshall had me rofl!! I was crying most of the book- some happy some sad!! Each man was such a positive catalyst for change in the other and gave them the motivation they needed. Awesome support. Loved the epilogue uodates!!! The narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters and story to life. Kudos on a magnificent series.

Saved the best for last!

Swoon! This book has all the feels and is so heartwarming! Perfectly narrated! Highly recommend this series!!

Story comment: good pace, likeable characters showing good growth and an interesting story...
I felt for Marshall's character, i'm glad he got a second chance and didn't waste it and I liked that despite Ollie's hard times, he didn't let it extinguish his spark.

I've enjoyed the way this series has challenged my idea's of the Dom/Sub relationship, all the Dom's in this series have a caring/nurturing nature that is often missing in BDSM titles.

I enjoyed Michael Dean's narration. I had no problem distinguishing characters, felt the emotion and chemistry between the characters and he bought the book to life

Great story

This is a tie for 1st place in the series for me. This was a great story for both characters where we see both of them having to grow and learn. When the heart finds its match your perspective and decisions change.

Brilliant Series hope there is more

The performance was outstanding I laughed frequently and felt like I would cry as well. very deep and yet playful. WOW!

I wasn’t ready for it to end

This is the last story in the His Command Series. However, it makes me want to read &/or listen to all of the books in this universe again. Michael Pauley’s narration w Piper Scott’s words were fantastic. In fact this may be one of my top Michael Pauley narrated books. Once again Piper Scott brings the characters to life and you are rooting for their happy ending!

Another Great Book

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. I have really enjoyed reading/listening to this series. This book was no different. Love how Oliver and Marshal got together and that Marshal changes his mind on getting the surgery that can help him live longer. This story keeps your attention from start to finish.

Fantastic

Loved loved loved this new audio from Piper Scott! Oli and Marshall's story was so good as I knew it would be! Michael Pauley can do no wrong and teamed up with Piper Scott, he just shines as a narrator!

Sad that this is the last in the series....

I’ve enjoyed all the listens in this series, Piper Scott is a great story teller and a fantastic World builder. I’m sad it’s the last book but I really enjoyed the relationship between Marshall and Oli. They’re great, well developed characters - Oli was great fun.

As always in a Piper Scott book, you’re taken through the full range of emotions in this story. The chemistry that happens when these two meet was steaming hot so make sure you’re in a well ventilated room when you listen!

Michael Pauley is brilliant, he’s a truly wonderful narrator. He could read the phone book and his voices would still blow me away!

Loved Oli and Marshall!

Breathe is book 5 in His Command series and I think this could easily be my favorite of them all. 

Oli was totally adorbs. Sassy and with a special brand of humor that just endeared him so much to me, especially because he had to go through so much at the start of the book. And Marshall was his perfect counterpart, and strangely enough, even if he was a bit difficult about his own health, I wasn't annoyed at him and I was very glad that Piper didn't make Marshall keeping his illness a secret from Oli into too much of a problem between them. 

The chemistry between them was scorching and the sex scenes super hot, but above all, I loved how amazing they were together. 

Michael Pauley's performance was amazing as always, his voices, his cadence and everything just came together to make this a fantastic production. Very recommendable!

Ollie and Marshall

Alcrest and Oliver meet online and are quite compatible. Oliver is an omega who is trying to make ends meet and doesn’t seem to catch a break in a world lead by alphas. A chance encounter brings them together. It’s sad that Marshall is hiding a secret. I think it was so wonderful that they found each other and they are so right for one another. The struggles they go through. I am not so much into BDSM but this is done tastefully. Great romance! I loved it and the narrator’s voice.

Amazing book and narration

I really loved this book. It was the perfect ending to the series.

I really liked Marshall and Oliver. There is a whirlwind romance with a twist. I loved it.

Michael Pauley really brought these two men to life and brought out the emotions.

Breathtaking

Breath was truly an amazing book. Scott gives me a broad gambit of emotions and depth of characters. I found myself completely enraptured in the storyline and Pauley has done a magnificent job of bringing these amazing characters to life. Truly a breathtaking story that leaves an impression long after it is over.

Finding a reason to live

A fantastic listen from the team of author Piper Scott and narrator Michael Pauley! I have enjoyed all the books in this series, and this one is no exception. The characters are well-developed and realistic. The story is full of pain and angst, joy and love, and plenty of heat. I didn't enjoy the scene near the end with the choking/breath play, but other than that, I loved it. I enjoyed Oli's snark and sense of humor, and it was wonderful the way he gave Marshall a reason to live again.

Narration by Michael Pauley is fantastic. He really makes you feel the emotions of the characters.

Wow really loved it

I absolutely loved this book. Marshall and oli *sigh* they are amazing together, this book has all the feels and Micheal Pauley did an amazing job with bringing this book to life.

Emotive, powerful and so steamy! I loved it!

OMG, I felt for Oli at every turn. He'd been dealt a hard hand but just kept on pushing through time after time. I'm so happy he finally found the happiness he deserved even though he had to fight tooth and nail for that too. Oli is amazing and so strong to keep pushing through and having eternal optimism even with a hefty amount of sarcasm on the side.

I loved their virtual relationship and duel points of view. I could feel the emotions between these two even through a messaging app. I loved there real-life meeting and was so glad that wasn't dragged out at all. They have the same, if not more powerful chemistry when they meet than they do online. Throw in a forgetful moment culminating in a life-changing pregnancy and this story will tug on your heartstrings. While I know it is called Breathe and there are multiple reasons for that, I have realized that breathe play in this context is just not my thing, but the was really only one scene with it and everything else is so wonderful, it didn't really affect my love of the story.

Fantastic narration by Micheal and now I just need to go back and listen to the rest of the series. Piper and Micheal make a dream team!!
