Publisher's Summary

Trust no one. It’s a lesson Seth Cooper lives by. So why is it that when he meets Tad Rutledge, all he wants is to be wrapped in his strong arms and forget about the world?

It’s insanity and Seth knows it - every second he’s not on guard is a second he’s at risk - but the kindness in Tad’s eyes makes him want to believe happiness is possible.

Only the truth is far more complex.

Seth can’t let anyone love him. Not now. Not ever.

Not if he wants to survive.

Seth Cooper has secrets - the type Tad Rutledge shouldn’t mess with. They gleam in his heartbroken blue eyes and tremble in his voice. But helping people is what Tad does, so when he finds Seth lost and on the run, not even the promise of danger is enough to deter him.

Not when Seth looks at him like Tad might be the answer he’s been waiting for.

It’s up to Tad to protect him.

Keep him.

Claim him.

Because what Seth is running from is serious, and it’s about to change their lives forever.

Not a romantic "romance"

Thaddeus Rutledge and Seth Cooper meet quite by accident, and Thad's innate desire to protect and serve drives him to help the omega who has managed to escape from his pimp with information damaging enough to make Seth a dangerous opponent. From the moment Thad lies to protect Seth from the goons chasing him to the moment he surrenders to their desire for each other, the story moves quickly, with enough non-romantic action to keep the reader's interest. Their attraction to each other is far too underplayed in my view and makes them finally coming together more than 3/4 of the way through almost completely implausible. There's a growing friendship between them but nothing more, so the sudden shift from platonic to carnal is whiplash swift. I get that this is a novella but I felt like there needed to be more than subtle mentions of one or the other noticing the attraction, in order to build a more solid foundation for the change in their relationship. Suffice it to say, then, that this is also not your typical alpha-omega story since none of that power dynamic ever comes into play in the narrative... which might make it appear to be a totally unnecessary part, almost an afterthought. Then, too, the voice actor's performance was lackluster at best. To me, with his almost monotone delivery, he didn't sound especially interested or engaged in what he was reading and that affected how I received his performance. Also, how does 'Thad' sound like 'Tad'? What happened to the 'h'? His saving grace was that he managed to differentiate believably between Thad and Seth.

Great story

This was a great story, but I feel it could have been fleshed out a little more. The jumping time and missing some good interactions between characters was missing for me. Great story line.

Swoon

I did a second listen before diving into the newest addition, and it was just as good the second time around.

Great characters, good chemistry, great plot, and excellent narration. What more can you ask for? Perfect slip away from the real world without having to sacrifice the whole day.

I definitely recommend.

The world is more beautiful because of you

Ah .. a new ABO romance from Piper Scott! Just what I needed to get through this awful quarantine! Although it was written a while ago, I just picked this up because the audio came out so it’s new for me. If you have read my reviews for a while, you know I loooove Piper Scott. This woman can do no wrong in my eyes. And this time wasn’t an exception.

Thad is a strong, caring Alpha who thought a little something is just missing from his very privileged life. Running a community soup kitchen feels fulfilling at first but still something is missing. And Seth is certainly the missing piece Thad has been waiting for. Abused, battered and utterly mistreated, Seth ha almost given up on life. He has been living to serve Alphas and this is definitely not a way to continue living. When he finally got a chance to escape from his miserable worse than death life, he took a chance and run away. And he run straight to the arms of his hero Alpha Thad who will cross a sea of fire to protect his mate.

Lovely, romantic, short and sweet. Though short, packed with action and excitement. I love Thad’s caring streak and how resilient Seth is. Dennis Adams is a new to me actor but he did a good job narrating this story. I’m looking forward to more audios in this series.

Good

Enjoyed this novella from Piper Scott, narrated by Dennis Adams. I liked the story when I read the ebook, I just felt it was way too short and needed length to it because I loved these characters! I have to say, I am not crazy about the narrator...he is very monotone. I do think he has a lot of potential and just needs to add more life and warmth to his narration! Looking forward to more from both Piper and Dennis!

Short and sweet

This was a pretty good story but short. The mpreg didn’t really come in until the end but I look forward to seeing it play out in the next story.

I love Tad and his philanthropy, despite his family’s money. I love how he does what he can to help and save Seth. I look forward to his brothers’ stories and especially seeing more of his mom.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator and I enjoyed listening to him bring the story to life. I look forward to listening to others done by him.

Wonderful sweet story!!! Awesome narrator!!!

Dennis Adams did a awesome job narrating this book!

I really liked how the romance between Seth and Tad was developed slowly. Especially with Seth's past and Tad being ex-military. They were both sweet together.

A really good book to listen to with Dennis as the narrator. I definitely recommend!!!

Great start

In the first book of the Rutledge Brothers, we get a look into the new omega verse world containing our wonderfully written characters (both main and secondary) and The White Lotus Brothel. The storyline is one that keeps your attention and is entertaining while being intriguing and sexy.
This is the first book I’ve listened to performed by Dennis Adams, but I truly enjoyed his narration. His is an easy voice to listen to, and he does a great job bringing Seth and Thad to life.

A very suitable narration for this amazing book!

When I read the ebook version of this book, I enjoyed it a lot how the author managed the emotions of the characters and got me crying and laughing a lot, making a mess with my heart in a totally wonderful way. This first book in the series presented us to Seth, an omega who suffered a lot in his past but that was determined to confront it to save others, and Tad, an alpha who helped him to succeed. Tad taught Seth that love really exists and that there is good people in the world who is trustworthy. I loved how they worked out all their issues and prejudices to get a really sweet and well deserved HEA. After discovering that this book was kind of a prequel for “The solution”, a book in the Single dad support group series, I got hooked to the incredible world these 2 series shared and the complexities and intensity of the original plot. Of course, after how much I love this book, I was afraid to not be able to enjoy properly the audio version, because a really high expectations but Mr Adams was simply perfect for the job. His performance was unique and could catch completely the soul of the characters voicing their emotions and feeling beautifully. Loved it!

Sweet but feisty Omega meets protective Alpha

I love this Rutledge Brothers series of novellas by Piper Scott as it brings the Omegas from the White Lotus into the open. I love how Tad (Thaddeus) finds Seth hiding near his Soup Kitchen and his immediate instinct is to shield him from the potential threat of the thug looking for him.
This story is short but had plenty of action and a determined Omega who takes charge of his destiny. A nice story with a happy ending but that leads towards wanting to know more about the other brothers and the omegas who come into their lives. Highly recommended as a short sweet listen. Dennis Adams is a relatively new-to-me narrator who does an excellent job of giving the guys a voice of their own. I love the strong characters Piper has developed from their initial inception.

Good start to the series!

While this book is pretty much a companion to the His Command series or at least in the same 'verse, it can be listened to as a standalone.

Seth manages to escape from the evil clutches of the White Lotus Brothel's owner and is determined to find a way to help rescue his best friend and the others in the brothel. While escaping from one of the Director's men, he is found by Tad Rutledge, who runs a Soup Kitchen and who vows to protect Seth and help him bring down the Director and his empire.

This was a short audiobook at almost 2 and a half hours, still, it was entertaining and the story was well-developed. The romance was pretty insta, but considering the length of the book, it's understandable. It has action and violence and hot, knotty sex.

Dennis Adam is a new-to-me narrator, and I found his voice pleasant and engaging. It was a pretty smooth, even narration that I have no trouble recommending.

Great start to this short series

Seth is living a horrific existence. He sees a chance to escape and he takes it.
Tad is running a soup kitchen and is a really sweet guy.
When he finds Seth, fearing for his life his instincts kick in and he immediately wants to protect him.
Seth doesn't really want protection, just because he's an omega doesn't mean he's weak.
He's also seen the worst of humanity that comes with the excesses of wealth so when he fonds out Tad is rich, he instinctively becomes leery of him.
Tad has to work extremely hard to get Seth to see him as a good guy and also to believe that he's worthy of love and has value other than for his body.
Mild angst, drama and a touch of danger pervade throughout the storyline.
Dennis Adams is a new narrator for me and I absolutely loved his interpretation of the story.
He brought it life and kept me completely immersed throughout.

Troubled boy and white knight

If I am not mistaken, this sweet, heart-warming story is something of a companion to the His Command series, based on references to The White Lotus brothel. One major (and much appreciated) difference is the gentler tone of this book. The characters are less broken and it lacks the rougher bdsm/domination themes of that other series. I really appreciated this lighter approach. There is still drama, danger. and a little angst, but also good friends and old buddies, well-meaning (if over-bearing) family, snark, humor, and - of course - sweet love and Mpreg. Seth and Tad are great characters. I would have liked a little more background on both of them, but the story is well-developed for the length on the audiobook.

The narration was really great, with different character voices that matched the emotions and events going on. As far as I remember, this was my first listen by Dennis Adams, and I will definitely look for more narrated by him.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Short, sweet beginning to a new series🙂

Seth is trapped in a bad situation. Tad, an alpha, runs a soup kitchen and is planning to start a thrift shop. He believes in doing what he can for his community. When Seth escapes from his situation, he finds Tad who takes him in and helps to get Seth back on his feet.
The story is interesting, with a tiny bit of sadness, some suspense, fun, humour and affection all wrapped up neatly in a little over 2 hr narration.
Dennis Adams made this such a good experience! He has a lovely voice, great voices for Seth, Tad (and even for the odious characters ...). I would definitely recommend listening to this :)

Heartwarming romance, quick listen

I really enjoyed listening to this new series. Piper Scott is brilliant at building a new world with only a few chapters. Seth has lived a hard life, though we're not given details on his history, and escaping from that straight in to the arms of Tad, a man who works hard to take care of others.
This is a short story and so things develop quickly between the characters but it doesn't detract from the feelings and trust that clearly builds between Seth and Tad. I enjoyed how easy it was to fall into the story and follow the plot. Along with the romance that develops, there's a slightly darker plot with the people who Seth was with before escaping coming after him, happy to use whatever means necessary to get him back. There's a good cast of characters involved, especially the group at Tad's soup kitchen and his brothers. Everyone obviously cares for each other and offers support when needed.
This is my first time hearing Dennis Adams and I really enjoyed his narration. He gave the characters individual voices and provided the feelings that carried them through the story. I look forward to hearing more from this series and the narrator.

Great New Omegaverse, <3 Dennis Adams!

Piper Scott lays the groundwork for a very intriguing omega-verse universe in the first of her Rutledge Brothers novels, Love Me. The story of Seth, a runaway enslaved prostitute, as he helps to bring the powers of The White Lotus Brothel to justice.

Very romantic, the wealthy Thad (who has a giant heart), pledges to help Seth. Ms. Scott performs her magic, and they fall in love.

The audiobook is performed by Dennis Adams (4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐). New to me, Mr. Adams does a great job. I love his smooth, melodic voice. I hope this is just the beginning of Mr. Adams career, because he’s perfectly suited to the M/M romance genre.
