Publisher's summary

When all she wanted was to fit in, Tamika Catchings stood out and felt left out, never knowing one day she'd stand out - as a basketball superstar and an inspiration. She faced being set apart by her hearing loss, separated from family, living up to high expectations, and the pain and discouragement of debilitating physical injury. Yet she reached for the stars with hard work, perseverance, and her faith in God. Through the silence, she found the way to shine.

Catch a Star tells Tamika's story of overcoming: of leading the Indiana Fever to its first championship, being named one of the WNBA's top 15 players in history, earning three Olympic gold medals, and founding the Catch the Stars Foundation to help young people achieve their dreams. Her story will inspire listeners to face their doubts and fears, encouraging them to reach for their own stars, no matter what challenges come their way.

Just OK

I'm not super familiar with basketball, so perhaps this is where I struggled. Tamika is clearly a gifted athlete, and while this book starts out strong with her discovery of her love of the sport, it gets bogged down with statistics (nearly two hours is spent on her first season of college games alone) and preachiness (basketball was the most important thing in her life, then she realized she needed to play for God).
I'm not one to say athletes can't believe in God, or use their platform that way, but I wanted more and found this book just didn't get carried through for me.

Catchings shares

I enjoyed hearing Catching's journey in the basketball world. Her sharing the vulnerability in her family dynamics will help someone and I admire that. We have so few women in Sports with books, I had to read this. I wasn't so much interested with the play by play of the games, but I will take it if it means we have a great role for the next generation. l hope she writes another one about being a Sports Executive.

Amazing

This book was an amazing blend of work ethic and a Godly purpose. Tamika's ability to keep a perspective on Good through all adversity is truly inspiring.

Lady Volunteer Fan for Life

As a Lady Volunteers fan I was already familiar with Ms. Catchings story.
After hearing her complete story I realized I had only known a small piece of her journey.
I had and always will treasure her honesty and willingness to share her faith in God.
This book should be read by every person who feels they cannot achieve their dreams because others see them as different.
The narrator could have shown more excitement in her voice.
I found her to be somewhat monotone.
