Publisher's Summary

“National Best-seller—New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly, Wall Street Journal

The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

Now a #1 New York Times bestselling book, Capital Gaines offers readers a ringside seat as Chip relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way. His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances. Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip Gaines.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business but more importantly in life.

Bootstrap Success from a Serial Doer

I am, at best, mildly successful and see glimpses of myself in Chips personal story. One of my biggest takeaways is the crucial need to be a doer. As he describes executing an idea, or half an idea, I can feel myself mentally & emotionally pulling up the reins. Using Chips example I am making a challenge to myself to become a doer. Not a reckless Jesus Take The Wheel and hope for the best doer but a calculated doer that commits to a course of action and follows thru.
Thx for sharing your story & leading by example.

Weekend Road Trip

My wife started playing this in the car for her and I to listen to as we embarked on a 6 hour car ride to southern Utah for a family getaway. I didn’t even ask who or what the book was about, but found myself really enjoying it.

It wasn’t until about the 3rd chapter that it finally clicked for me of who was actually narrating and who had written the book. I looked over to my wife and said, “Wait, this is Chip Gaines from that Fixer Upper show you watch?!” She laughed as she realized I was just barely figuring that out.

I’ve seen snippets of the show here and there due to its popularity, but I’ve never sat down and actually watched it. After completing the book in just two car rides (Down and back road trip), I have an incredible amount of respect for these two, for what they’ve accomplished, what they stand for, their respect for God, and their pure desire to help other people.

Very powerful and inspiring wisdom told by the words of Chip. Would absolutely recommend this book! (And have to three different people since finishing it 7 hours ago)

Inspirational

During the couple of days I listened to this book at home, I laughed, cried, paused the rhetoric, wrote down quotes & made plans to change the world. I heard many of the things I felt, things I believed and hoped and never said aloud, for myself, my husband, my son, for the world, spoken though the voice of a beloved reality-show couple. Chip & Joanna entered our home through the television, and my heart through this book. You hit the nail on the head - thanks for speaking life into this Florida family's home.

Great Book For Christian Leaders

This story makes you want to be like Chip Gaines. Leave a legacy like him and make an impact on the world. He does a great job of writing a secular book, but planting his faith firmly in the book at the same time. It’s not a business leader book, it’s more of a self help or self enrichment/motivation book. He challenges us to be great leaders and give the glory of our decisions to God, as well as to trust God wholly while running our businesses. Great listen.

Must read for those who are not self believers.

Overall I am happy that I listened this book. Must read for those who are not self believers. People who doubt their ability will be able to correlate and appreciate the points Chip has made throughout the book. May be this book can serve as an eye opener for many.

Chip narration of his book is exciting, humorous and detailed. It is always tough to read your book. But Chip did a great job! I was always the big fan of your show "Fixer Upper" but after listening through your experience in building what you and Joanna have today i am a bigger fan.

Your book has taught me many important aspects of life. The way you talked about setting priorities in life was an eye opener. The importance of people around you in your life plays a critical role in what you may do at the end.

Thank you again. All the best to you for your future endeavors.

Classic Chip Gaines

I enjoyed this book. It was nice to hear Chip’s stories firsthand and his perspective on various things. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer, but I can see how it would be tough to avoid repeating a lot of what is in Joanna’s book. I truly believe Chip and Joanna are what you see is what you get, and I love what they have built together. Although I’ll miss Fixer Upper, I cant wait to see what comes next for them after this well-deserved break (if you can call it that with everything they do). Mark my words: We haven’t seen the last of them; not by a long shot.
