Publisher's Summary

From Ben and Erin Napier, the stars of the hit HGTV show Home Town, comes Make Something Good Today, a memoir that tells us all to seek out the good in life, celebrate the beauty of family and friends, and prosper within our communities because everything we need in life to be happy is within our grasp.

Long before their hugely popular TV show, an expanding family, or demolition day on their dream home, Erin began keeping a daily Online journal to help her stay focused on the positive and count her blessings in life. She never expected that her depictions of small-town life in the tiny swath of Mississippi where she Ben call home would catch the eye of a television producer and set them off on the journey of a lifetime.

Make Something Good Today offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the struggles and triumphs of a couple that America has come to know and love for their easy humor, adoring relationship, and ability to utterly transform a place into something beautiful and personal. This is the poignant story of how Erin and Ben took a small, tight-knit town into their own hands (literally) and used ingenuity, community, and authenticity to rebuild a once-thriving American Main Street. And how, by combining Ben’s carpentry skills with Erin’s design eye, Home Town is making it clear to us all that small-town living can feel as big as you make it.

Complete with family photographs, Erin’s hand-painted sketches, and never-before-heard personal stories, this inspirational memoir reminds us all not to give up hope that great love stories are possible, big things can bloom in small towns, and there is always magic in the ordinary if you know where to look for it.

This was so intriguing and fun to read. I would encourage any young person to read about what's possible when you just go after your dreams in little steps at a time.

Enchanting

What a magical and beautiful love story!! I adored every minute of the book, and the fact that Erin and Ben narrated it made it even more special. I am a MS native myself, and have family in Laurel. Erin and Ben really share what a true picture of southern charm, hard work, and small town family and in Erin's words "framily" is all about. I love what they are doing in Laurel, MS. @laurelmercantile

wow...just wow

I thought I loved the Napier's by what I saw on TV. A real couple, living in a small town they cherished, with talent in home flipping and design coming out of their ears. What I learned from reading this book is that they are so much more. I want to wrap them up in a big, warm hug everytime they went through one of their struggles. I want to shout to the world that "I'm so proud of them!" everytime they followed God's prompting to start down a new path and most of all, I want to claim them as my friends because they're just so ...real. I loved this book way more than I thought I would and let me tell you...I knew I would love it. Erin Napier has a way of weaving a story that sucks you right in, just as if you were next to her on a large porch swing in the Mississippi heat. Ben, to my surprise, has that same ability. When he talked about working and building pieces of art (aka furniture) I could smell the wood. I really and truly hope that this is the first of their books...and I will someday, own them all. Thank you so very much, Ben and Erin, for sharing you..with us

Kismet

I rarely review books. Mostly because I am rarely surprised by how much I love a book. Despite the fact that I don’t have a lot in common with the authors, I related to this memoir in a kismet kind of way. I recently bought an old house and the way these two talk about old homes makes me relate on a cellular level. I left this book feeling positive and warm. Anyone who loves small towns, old homes, and loves stories should read this book. It will quickly become one of your favorite stories.

Inspiring!

Love love loved this book!
It honestly embodies the American Dream. Shows that through loving one another, your community, and God, anything is possible! Erin gives me hope to break out of my shell and do the thing I'm passionate about, and Ben shows my boyfriend (who also listened and we watch their show together) to let God show you your own path.
Thank you both beautiful souls for your story!

A Wonderful Memoir

When I first found out that Fixer Upper was going away I was worried that I wasn’t going to find another show that I liked similar to that. Then comes Ben & Erin Napier and Home Town. I instantly fell in love with the show, their personalities, and their big southern charm.

So, when I found out they were writing and narrating a book I was excited. I really don’t know much about their backstory and I was intrigued to figure out who they were and where they came from. Make Something Good Today Gave me that and more.

I’m a big guy like Ben (not as tall) and have a similar heritage – so I identified with him a lot on the show. My wife is also short, cute, and, creative like Erin – so you can see why we fell in love with them. I was not prepared for just how cute Ben really is. I consider myself to be a romantic but Ben blows me out of the water. The scenes where they talked about when they first met, first dated, and where he proposed had me smiling from ear to ear while listening. If you didn’t know what I was listening to you might think I was a bit crazy. It was just so cute and so incredibly adorable to listen to them tell it from both of their perspectives.

They don’t go too much into the story behind Home Town which was fine with me. They talk a little bit about the pilot and what it was like shooting in the southern heat. But a lot of the story is where they came from, what shaped them, and how they overcame certain issues (quitting jobs, not knowing what they wanted to do next, not getting a political position, etc).

There was so much in Make Something Good Today that I didn’t know it was a joy to read from beginning to end. I’m glad I picked this one up!
