When actress Claudia Christian flees a troubled childhood and moves to Hollywood at age 17, she steps through the looking glass into another world.
From the set of Dallas to her starring role on the sci-fi series Babylon 5, Claudia's affairs with billionaires, supermodels, rock stars, and celebrities are mixed with shootings, stalking, heartbreak, and betrayal. On set and off, drama follows Claudia - an alcohol-fueled coke run and makeout session with a bridesmaid on her wedding day; her tempestuous, love-hate relationship with actor Angus Macfadyen; the conspiracy theories surrounding her ex-husband's death; and a 20-year on-and-off relationship with billionaire Dodi Fayed before he dated Princess Diana. Hollywood life takes its toll on Claudia as she descends into alcohol addiction and a desperate battle to reclaim her life.
Rehab, alternative treatments, and even hypnotism can't break the cycle of alcohol abuse that threatens to destroy Claudia. Close to despair she discovers The Sinclair Method, a treatment that saves her life.
Sometimes shocking, often humorous, always captivating Babylon Confidential is a story of hope that will inspire and enlighten you.
This book is quite possibly the most candid book I've ever experienced. That Claudia Christian narrates the audiobook herself makes it feel that much more personal, and that much more powerful. On Babylon 5, her character Susan Ivanova is tougher-than-nails, the left hand of God and vengeance personified when the call arises. The actress behind the character... she's much tougher by necessity, and all too human, just like the rest of us.
Everyone has that personal chink in the armor, the Achilles' Heel to which we can fall prey. She found hers, and this book is an amazing chronicle of her battle with what she calls her inner monster. The book is intense and as relatable as a tale like this can be. It's not for the squeamish, but it is one for pretty much anyone who doesn't live that fairy tale perfect life. At its core, which she reminds us up front, this is a story of hope.
While I myself am not an alcoholic, I found the details to be particularly enlightening as to what that kind of thing really is like, and in the sharing, I felt like I was given a boost to my own fight against my own personal demons. We all have an addiction to something, even if we aren't aware of it, and even if it seems minor by comparison of others. I'm in the midst of battling with mine. This came along at exactly the right time, which is perhaps why I'm biased towards a higher rating, but I just can't give anything less than the highest mark for a person who bared her soul to the world in this way. A book like this is courage incarnate.

Truth about addiction is hard to come by especially when you think you are hiding it so well. This is a very open and honest look at what addiction can do to our lives. I appreciate her courage for sharing her truth because abuse tried to stay hidden creating the monster. I also admire her for reaching out to others to try and help with their monsters. I am glad that you are still here to do battle with your monster. I hope you continue to have s happy and successful life.

For anyone curious about what life is really like behind the scenes for a beautiful, successful Hollywood actress, this is a fascinating glimpse into that world. For anyone struggling with an inner darkness while trying to look normal to the rest of the world, you'll find a kindred spirit in Claudia. For anyone in the grips of addiction, riding the spiral downward to an early grave, this book could save your life.
Fascinating, heartbreaking, and always funny, Claudia delivers the story of her life and her painful addiction with a heartfelt passion, a characteristic bluntness, and a knowing grin all in one. Well worth a read!
What made the experience of listening to Babylon Confidential the most enjoyable?
Eloquently read and written - its true you never know what challenges someone is facing and everyone has their own. A fascinating story of a well lived life, with recognizable public figures from our past.
Loved it...did the whole thing in a night and will follow the program. This woman could very well change my life.~Abigail
Wow...so disappointed. Although I have not followed a lot of her career, I do like a good autobiography so thought why not. What I read was a person who after not fighting tooth and nail in an early incident, went on to live the rest of her life that way. Laid back and took it! She may have lost me when she referred to her self inflicted alcoholism as a disease! No honey, cancer is a disease not drinking to excess.
So much happened to her before she was obviously mentally ready for it which seems so common for young people in that line of work. I tried to have compassion for her and on occasion I did. But where as other autobiographies have me writing up a list of the person's work to watch later, this one left me with "well I saw that movie so that's enough'.
In the end I was very annoyed to find that the whole book seemed to be the build up to an advertising ploy. Well done as I did listen to it all but I do not need all that information on how to be an alcoholic and still drink but not have the effects be so destructive on your life and those around you. At least now I now the story behind her facial plastic surgery.

Would you listen to Babylon Confidential again? Why?
No, I wouldn't listen to it again. The story was compelling...but, in the end, Christian came off as self-serving and her "solution" to sobriety seemed to be an infomercial.
Would you recommend Babylon Confidential to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, for easy reading/listening, and compelling story. But not if you're looking for something deep.

Babylon Confidential exposes Claudia Christian's life, loves and troubles in the raw. I found it interesting as a fan of Claudia's work to see the path she has taken through her career and the challenges both professional and self imposed she has lived through. Part Hollywood kiss and tell, part honest memoir but all from the heart it showed me life's path never really runs smooth and being rich and famous can have serious consequences too.
Overall I enjoyed it and recommend it if you like Hollywood autobiography, science fiction or Claudia's work in general.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes.
This is a story of how Fate can spin us around, if we want it or not.
The story has to levels, the outer Hollywood jetset line, and the inner self reproaching level.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Babylon Confidential?
Reading the story about her brother Patrick was actually hard.
Hearing Claudia actually reading it, was almost devastating.
I can't believe she made it, even if I know she had to stop several times.
Which character – as performed by Claudia Christian – was your favourite?
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, many.
She told her story to ME.
I work with these things as a councellor, and her case could easily landed in my in-tray. Very honest, very brave.
Any additional comments?
I really recommend this book, and specially the audiobook to everyone.
Hearing her own words narrated by herself is just impressive.
This is an amazing listen! Claudia reads it in a clear and concise way. It is a fast action packed story of tragedy, and ultimate victory, over Claudia's life, and her alcoholism. It is one of the best books that I have ever read, and then I listened to it because it is so good.
I personally have been on The Sinclair Method for 2 years now, and it has cut my drinking down from 50 standard drinks each week, down to about 6 standard drinks each week. Babylon Confidential is a great way to introduce people to The Sinclair Method and if you know anyone with alcoholism, then give them a copy of this audio book as a gift, it might save their life & sanity, and if you are an alcoholic yourself, then download a copy of this audio book and listen to it now, the message about recovery from alcoholism in it is astounding, and it really works!
I will be listening to this audio book again.
