With wry wit and touching humor, Louie Anderson, New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award–winning comedian currently starring in Zach Galifianakis’s Baskets, shares his journey of turning life’s challenges into joy, as well as plenty of wisdom he’s still discovering from his late mother.

“I started out writing these letters to my mom, but a few friends said I should write a book. I said ‘okay’ because next to ‘we’ll see,’ ‘okay’ is as non-committal as you can get. But somehow, I stuck with it. I hope you like it. I hope that after you read it, you’ll write or call your own mom—and dad, sister, brother, cousin, nephew. Or have lunch with them. Or breakfast. It doesn’t have to be lunch. But do it now. Don’t wait like I did.” —Louie

Louie Anderson has channeled his beloved mom, Ora Zella Anderson, in his stand-up routine for decades, but she died before seeing him reach his greatest heights, culminating in his breakout TV role as Christine Baskets, the mesmerizing character she inspired. Hey Mom is Louie’s way of catching her up on the triumphs, disappointments, and continuing challenges in life. Full of heartache, but also great hope, and of course—given Louie’s inimitable comedic voice—laugh-out-loud stories and his trademark observations on life’s many absurdities, Hey Mom shows a poignant side of Louie you may not know, and proves that he is one of the most nuanced and wide-ranging comics working today.

I discovered Louie's hilarity when gathered around a large TV downstairs watching a late night show at our college dorm. Must have been the Letterman show, since we were studying at Dave's alma mater, and no one dared switch the channel to other shows! So glad we did not. Louie was brilliant, kind, real and truly golden! He will be missed! R.I.P. Lou! Have listened to him read this one, watched many of his shows including Baskets where he played Christine, a character modeled after his own mother! What a Mom! 11 kids, of which Louie was #1O! I will be sure to read/listen to all his books now!

I haved loved Louie since I first watched him do standup and fell more in love with him as Christine Baskets. Hey Mom felt like Louie was describing my family as I too grew up with an alcoholic father only thing is I still haven’t grown up and still carry scars of that childhood like Louie. My husband and I listened too it while driving 14 hours up and back to watch our daughter graduate from college and the audible book was thoroughly enjoyable and made a tedious drive seem to go by as we hung on everything Louie said . Here’s to all the strong women who grow strong kids! God bless you Louie! Love, June and yes it does truly get better❤️

this is a wonderful, heartfelt book! The honesty at which Louie writes, opening his most personal feelings to us is moving. To hear him in his comic brilliance narrate it and make you laugh one minute and then bring you to tears with the next story again by more than just the story, you can hear his emotion as he tells the story. His pain and his joy. Well Done!

Fantastic

The first 2/3 is great - you get to know about Louie and the mother who helped shape a man while raising a large family. The last part became repetitive and and sounded like a self-promotion for his TV show.

Great book. I bought an autograph copy when this book was released. I am a big fan of Louie Anderson. I just had to experience this audio version. I am super super glad I did. To hear the expression in Louies voice as he read was moving. I got a lot out of this book. I keep thinking. Hey I’m in my 40’s climb something. Will do Louie. I enjoyed this book.

To me inspirational
