Bought the next before i finished this one

This book was a pinch slow to start, that aside it was a great book. With less the 20 min left in the audio book I purchased the next 2 in the series. I have no doubts they will be well worth it.

Fun story, mediocre voicing, 2.5d characters

If professionally voiced, this text could have been brought to life. The story arc is well thought out, but the writing is ok. characters are not quite dimensional enough to inspire loyalty from the reader, but there's a little spark there. Im going to read book 2 simply because the premise and overall arc is so cool. Perhaps the writer is growing and learning. Im willing to give the series a chance. One thing is for certain, its a fun page turner. I listened to the entire book in two days on a road trip. Its worth a try if you like adventure sci-fi with chain of command type military perspective. I have hope for this colony!!!

Great 1st book to a new series

Narration can make or break the best audio books out there. This guy brings the life and excitement to the story that you read about in marketing snippets & reviews. I will be getting book 2.

Solid story, will listen to the next one!

A little predictable when it comes to stereotypical characters and their interactions, but still - good writing and great reading performance. Will get the next.

A great adventure

Started out slow. Honestly I was about to put it down until he arrives on the new planet. Then it gets interesting.

Ignore the horrible narration and you’ve got a goo

Narrator voice is grating... story is interesting... maybe buy this book to read yourself instead

Good story oddly read

The author has created a very interesting story line with great potential. I liked it and will continue reading the series for now, but I almost had to quit a couple times.

The narration. This was the biggest challenge to getting through this book. Who talks like this? It reminded me of Capt Kirk. i.e. the characters inflections were off. People don't talk like that in real life. The emphasis was so often on the wrong words in a characters statement that I wasn't sure if I could make it through the whole thing. Especially, those involving the military people.

Which leads to the second problem I had. I won't go into details, but anyone with military experience is going to be shaking their head, a lot. I don't look for fictional future militaries or their personnel to behave like ours, but how and what they do should at least make more sense. I get it. You have to take shortcuts to fit stuff in a limited length of story timeline and I expect that, but there were a couple of "seriously?" moments in there that could have easily been dealt with more realistically. Despite this, overallI liked it. I'm hoping the next one will be better and definitely hoping the narration improves.
