Story
Six months ago, Connor learned what the alien race that populated New Earth feared - a mysterious enemy who nearly brought about the collapse of an entire civilization. To help the colony prepare for this new threat, Connor rejoins the Colonial Defense Force. Using alien technology, Connor opens a gateway to another universe hoping to learn more about the threat. Instead, he receives a colonial distress beacon. Six months ago, they’d left people behind on a mission, all presumed dead. The beacon might be them, or it might be a trap, but Connor will not ignore the call for help.

Publisher's Summary
Colonel Sean Quinn is stranded in another universe, along with 2,000 people under his command. They've been hiding from the enemy long enough, now it’s time to return home. Outnumbered against a superior foe, Sean must risk everything in a daring operation, but the mysterious enemy has a few surprises of their own.
Meanwhile, a division threatens to tear the colony apart and Connor Gates is caught in the middle. Their best chance to prepare for a formidable multidimensional aggressor is to form an alliance with one of their victims, but the more they learn about New Earth's inhabitants, the more resistant to an alliance the colonial government becomes.
When a shadow group seeks to undermine the alliance, Connor must do what he swore he would never do in order to protect the colony. For Connor, the stakes have never been so high or so personal. The price will be paid by everyone if he fails.
Fracture is the eighth book in the best-selling military science fiction series, First Colony.

Captivating
Glad to continue reading the first colony series. I enjoy the story line and the characters. It takes me away from the daily stress into the world of Science Fiction. My favorite part is that I don't have to deal with any sleazy or inappropriate scenes or language. It's clean and captivating without all of the extra and unnecessary scenes. Thank you Mr. Lozito!

Too short
I enjoy this series, but not the price for a just over 7 hour book. Even with the Kindle package I pay a monthly fee for, it still cost an additional $7.49 to add audio. Used to be most were 1.99. Then it was 3.79. Seems to almost double every year, which is very frustrating. That's more a complaint against audibles prices, than the author. Nonetheless I still feel It was way too short. Just my opinion. I think books should be at least 10 hours, preferably 30. Most authors nowadays are writing much shorter books, turning what used to be a trilogy into a dirty dozen. As for the story, we finally get to find out who's behind Lars's terrorist group & what happens to Noah. (trying not to need to say "spoiler alert." A lot of times people complain there's too much filler in a story. Strangely, in this case, it seemed like there wasn't enough. Overall, I enjoyed the series, but think I'm getting to the point where it just isn't as interesting as it used to be. More like I'll buy the next one because I want a book to listen to and don't have the time to search for a new series to start, so I might as well get the next one here, so the story line about the missing fleet can be resolved. But who knows, that might take another 3 books. I hope not, because I am not sure I'm willing to hang on that long. The main character is pretty boring and predictable by now & doesn't hold much interest for me anymore.
