Lost in space for a generation, they return to reclaim their homeworld.
The ship survived, but over time the original crew died out. Their children were left to continue the fight for their home against their sworn enemy, the vicious alien Malibor.
They’ve lived their whole lives in space. Their idea of heaven is open air, blue skies, and the quiet of peace. But they'll never have that if they don't take it by force.
The time has come for Captain Jaq Hunter and Commander Crip Castle to lead this new generation against the Malibor and reclaim what should be theirs.
The crew returns to fulfill their destiny and honor their parents’ legacy.
The battle is joined.

The various relationships, whether they be romantic or familial, felt forced, at best. I never got the impression that these characters even knew each other, let alone were in love, or even hated each other, when that was called for.
It also didn't help that the narrator decided to give everyone on the main ship different accents, even though they were all born there, and were raised communally. There's only 250 people, jammed close together on a single starship. By contrast, the enemy city supposedly has a million people living there, and they all have the exact same accent as each other. Maybe it was supposed to be a commentary on the differences in freedom between the two societies, but it just felt unnatural to me.
No one reacts realistically to their circumstances. There are places where I laughed out loud at the ridiculous ways people were convinced, or not, to lay down their arms. The arguments between supposed allies were equally nonsensical.
But. the world, and the plot kept me interested, even though all of the space battles went almost exactly the same, every time.
If you've been through every Space Opera/Military Sci-fi title on Audible, and you still want more, this series might just work for you. At least it was one price for the entire thing.
***One other minor annoyance was that there were "Previously On..." chapters at the beginning of the last few books that were the last chapter from the previous book. I just listened to that. Why was this kept in the omnibus edition? Runtime padding?
[SPOILERS]
I wish we got more information, if not closure from the other Malibor worlds. Sure, we got some from the two that they visited, but not the one where the Malibor were hiring mercenaries. They were supposed to be these ruthless warriors, but the only two times they are encountered, they are the first ones killed in the engagement. (and they have the same accents as the Malibor from every other planet.)
It was never explained why the Borwin on Septimus had 2 girls for every boy born. Was it some side effect of living off the land? Were the elders in the mountain trying not to breed too many soldiers? Was it the Malibor? Heck, was it the aliens?
Finally, I wanted more information about the aliens that the Malibor got the artificial gravity and energy shield technology from. They mentioned which planet they were found on, but there was zero follow up. Was it the ruins of an ancient civilization, or an active outpost? This author seems pretty prolific, so maybe there will be a sequel series.
Dragged on too long, yet ended too soon.

Parts of it were engaging

I think the overall plot is interesting. The universe the author has created has many points of interest. Unfortunately, the characters in the universe are robotic in conversation and internal monologue. None of the conversations feel fluid or natural. The interactions are stilted enough to distract from any opportunity for the plot and universe to feel interesting.
I hope the author grows in their ability to make the characters feel more real because they do. have a good idea for a story.
Interesting Plot Awkward Storytelling

Hi, let's all get married

Jack: The Chrysalis’s captain. A woman, named Jack…think the Riddick series.
Beck: Engineer with a Scottish accent…seriously?
These are the worst. Please authors…just create new characters. Own them. We do not want Scotty clones, or Riddick clones or any of that stuff.
I liked the story.

Pro
====================================
- 6 books (48+ hours) for only 1 credit
- Decent story
Con
====================================
- All characters with similar accents sound the same, male and female.
- The ship is a generational one so the current crew was born and raised on it. Why does one sibling have a Scottish accent, and the other doesn't?
- The crew sustains up to 7+ G's during acceleration, but their are many children on board. Kids can survive 7+ G's for hours on end?
- The enemy is pathetically one dimensional and stupid.
- The enemies accent changes from Russian to some other European accent between books 1 and 6.
- Every time the good guys meet a new group of people, they somehow find their life mates and get married within two or three days.
- One of the most experienced soldiers *literally* dies of a heart attack when he sees the enemy. Keep in mind the enemy looks the same as them, and the ones he saw was working in a field, harvesting grain.
I question the validity of the five star reviews.
