Story
United Earth burns. The Swarm runs rampant across our space. We mourn the loss of thousands of ships and millions of fallen comrades. Billions of fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers - all gone, all dead. It is time we end this, for our moment has come. But victory never comes without sacrifice. Heroes are not taught nor trained but forged in blood and ashes. Our grandchildren's history books will tell our story and glorify the heroes and legends.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
They're all gone. We remember them like yesterday: pieces of our stolen heritage. Things like NASA. Football. Parades and pies. Good things, comfortable things. We remember a time when we were alone in the universe, safe and oblivious. But it's all gone now. We called them the Telestines, and in the face of their ruthless invasion we were powerless. By 2040, all the world's governments and militaries had fallen, and the remnants of humanity exiled to the solar system. We looked down on our blue planet, so close to our birthplace, so close to our home.

Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

Captain Timothy Granger, at the helm of another time-tested battleship, will take the fight to the enemy. He'll discover their secrets. Find their homeworld. Destroy it before they destroy ours. He will save us all. He must. Or we'll die.

Better and better as it goes along
I had a hard time getting into this book initially, but it picks up pace quickly and gets interesting.
Humankind is under siege from the swarm, and daily battles decimate human forces, although Captain Granger seems to be able to defeat the incursion, albeit at tremendous, unsustainable cost. As the story progresses, though, the author reveals a much more intricate plot that quickly becomes interesting in a sort of Tom Clancy kind of way, and the pace of the story and the action increases right up until the end. Along the we way we get tantalizing glimpses into Granger's dreams of what happened to him when the Constitution was in the singularity. We also get some good old fashioned political conspiracy along the way, though I have to say the ending doesn't make the reader have any warm feelings towards the united earth president, even if she is working to save all of human kind from the swarm.
If you enjoyed the first book at all, you'll certainly enjoy this one, and will also want to read the third, concluding book to see how it all ends, and whether the swarm can actually be defeated, or negotiated with, or whether they have any good motivations at all.

Very good follow up to Constitution. Glad certain plot points weren't drawn out over more books and I really enjoy the story flow. also at least this book didn't have 15 chapters in a row stating the exact same location every time. :-)

Fantastic second book! More please!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would highly recommend it to anyone, I couldn't turn it off which in my job was hard work as it's multidrop. lol But, I really enjoyed listening. :)
Who was your favorite character and why?
I have to admit, I'm really torn here. I adore Tim Granger, with his attitude and sense of humanity. But then I really fell for Ballsy (sp) Even the president grew on me!
What about Greg Tremblay’s performance did you like?
Following on from Book 1, Greg kept all the characters voices the same, they were distinct, and as soon as you heard them, you knew who they were. From the sadness of losing people, to the full on excitement of battle, there was time to get to know everyone and enjoy the full story.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I would love to! script writing is my passion, but yeah digressing here. Tag line. Mmm. Probably something along the lines of 'One man leads the fight against total annihilation, while everyone else is fighting amongst themselves.' I hate tag lines... lol
Any additional comments?
I will admit, I first listened to Greg to hear the sound of his voice for my own work, but that in no way has made me rate this book or story any higher that it truly deserves.
For some extra comments, I can say the short chapters didn't bother me as much this time around. I'd settled into the style of the story and the narration and found it much easier to flick from one side of the galaxy and character to another.
Some other parts that I really enjoyed,
I found I was left guessing all the time, who was responsible for each plot point. Issacson and Aivary, (sp sorry) were great characters pitted against each other, not knowing who to trust, then everything came to a head, well played by the President here, loved that she faked her own death to get him to talk.
The Dolmassy, I kinda had a feeling that they had something to do with Tim's healing, but wasn't totally sure. In the midst of the final battle, I was floored when they turned on the Swarm, and then it all fell into place. :) Kudos to the writer, Nick. Awesome job with deception there.
Some of my fav other moments though, were in the realizations that when Ballsy went into the singularity that he might actually come back, before then with ZacZac and afterwards when he came out with Fishtail. I have to admit I was a little concerned with his obsessing over her in the start of the novel because I didn't think they'd gotten that close, even with their combat and experience throughout the first book, even with him going to visit her parents and her son. But, it did grow on me, and I think he was just being a friend, where it felt a little creepy at first.
Bringing her back to life as a 'swam conduit' mmm now that I'm not so sure about. :)
Excited for book 3 though! When? Please let me know!

good book, good reader
This series of books is entertaining especialy when joined with execelent performance readers. This specific reader Greg Trembaly can change any normal book into an execelent one.
This book is book 2 of 3 from the Legacey Fleet series written by Nick Webb. It is a contiuiation of the stoey from book 1 (Constitution). The story kicks of basicly from where Constitution ended where Cptn Granger was invited back and given command of the Warrior in the fight against the Swarm.
This book is entertaining, the writer continues his seamless random good choice bad choice senarios which really keeps you guessing if the decisions made by the key characters are the correct ones. The writer continues to be fairly un pridictable which is nice touch. If i was to try judge which book is the better one between book 1 (Constitution) and 2 (Warrior) i would say they are on par.
In finishing this book is worth a read, or, if your listening to the Audio book, worth a listen.
