A wonderful second chance romance

I really enjoyed this book, the first in the new Madigan Mountain series by three different authors. Devney Perry and Rebecca Yarros write the other two books in the series about the Madigan brothers.

This is a sweet second chance romance for Ava and Reed, who had been college sweethearts. They experienced some trauma that triggered their break up, and their ten year separation. Reed returns to Madigan Mountain when he learns his father, Mark, has plans to sell, and he finds that Ava is manager of the ski resort.

Ava is very easy to like, works hard, is a very good manager. She has a great group of friends at the resort who help to support each other. She has a good relationship with her boss, Mark, and with the resort employees.

Reed is highly successful in his career, but has almost no contact with is family, and no real relationships with women. He does have a wonderful assistant, Sheila, who is also a close friend. When Reed arrives at the resort, he and Ava are initially wary of each other, but their attraction still sizzles.

A Little Too Late is all about second chances. Of course Ava and Reed's romance has a second chance. However, Reed and his father, Mark, also have a chance to repair their relationship, which was nearly severed after the death of Reed's mother and Mark's wife. Even the pending sale of Madigan Mountain could mean a second chance for their ski resort. Watching these second chances unfold, especially Reed and Ava's, is a fun and interesting read.

I listened to the audio for A Little Too Late. Wonderfully narrated by Sebastian York and Andi Arndt, the story really comes alive.

I can't wait to read the next two entries in the Madison Mountain series!

A Little Too Late

I probably should have written my review for this one a few books back, but I forgot.

But all I had to do was read the blurb and it all came flooding back to me.

I liked that these two knew each other as “teens” and are now getting to know each other as adults even if it is under these circumstances.

But also, how awesome that Ava works for the family and has for a long time. Her life didn’t just stop because he wasn’t in the picture, she made something of herself. I loved that. Maybe not in the way Reed did but success looks different for everyone.

What I love about Sarina’s writing is we have conflict, but it matches the story. It's just just and after thought like oh it's that time of the story better get things moving. She makes you believe it’s meant to happen this way and you have to just hold on for the ride.

It has been a hot minute since I listened to Sebastian, and I needed him for this one.

Intriguing from that start with the best narrators!

“As if it’s perfectly normal to move to the tiny town where your ex grew up and take a job working with his father.” An intriguing book right from the start that had me hooked! That quote right there had me wanting to know more and as I kept reading I became more and more captivated by Reed Madigan and Ava Aichers!

This is the first book in the series at Madigan Mountain resort in Colorado. This first one is about the oldest brother, Reed Madigan and is a 2nd chance and enemies to lovers story. This book sets up the whole series so I highly recommend reading this one first! It’s a cute romance story, with angst that doesn’t drag on which I love! The only thing I didn’t like is that the flashback chapters are all written in 3rd person. I wish those had been in first person and stayed in the same POV throughout the whole book! Besides that, it’s a very enjoyable story!

Sebastian York and Andi Arndt were perfect for the narration of this book! Their voices were exactly what I imagined for these characters and as always they did a flawless performance!

A Little Too Wonderful

I loved everything about this book. Sebastian York and Andi Arndt are a classic pairing, and they did a great job with this story. Their performances are perfect and they are wonderful as Reed and Ava. I loved listening to them and I will definitely listen to this book over and over and over. It’s really worth listening to it.

A Little Too Late is the first book in the Madigan Mountain series, and completed by A Little Too Close by Rebecca Yarros, and a Little Too Wild by Devney Perry. It’s a series that centers around the Madigan family, and each book tells the story of each of the Madigan brothers. They’ve all left home—their family ski resort—years ago, but it’s time for them to come back and find love.

A Little Too Late is a small town, second chance romance that tells us Reed and Ava’s story. They’ve been over for ten years, and their breakup was pretty bad. Their history is complicated, but their chemistry is not—it’s explosive.

I loved everything about this book. The tension and banter between Ava and Reed is so well done. There’s a paced unveiling of their past, and adding the missing pieces feels really organic and helps the story and their relationship flow. I always enjoy how Sarina Bowen can mix angst with hilarious situations, making you ache and cry and smile and laugh all at the same time; this book is like a masterclass in this.

I loved the setting, a Colorado family-runned ski resort felt pretty cool and original. The story feels fresh and is perfectly paced, and it evolves in a very dynamic way that just makes you want to keep reading. It’s a very emotional/angsty book—but in a good way, perfectly balanced with their banter, the fun, and the heat. Because Ava and Reed’s chemistry is off the charts and pretty much there the whole time, ready to explode.

I love everything Sarina Bowen writes. She’s a wonderful storyteller, and her writing is always outstanding. I also love Devney Perry and the few Rebecca Yarros books that I have read so far. If these three are writing a series together, I’ll be there. They really make it work. I can’t wait for the other two books of this series, and I highly recommend reading this book because it is totally worth it.

Great new series

This book is the start of a great new series. I love the theme of the story taking place in a Colorado Mountain ski resort. I look forward to the next two books in the series and finding out more about the brothers and how the family is going to pull together to continue their family legacy.

I love second chance romance and the fact that the two characters immediately fell back in love. They figured their shit out and moved on to the next phase of their lives

Worth a read but not her best book

As always a pleasure to listen to Sarina Bowen, but not up to her usual standards.
Plus points for the representation of loss. The MCs lacked some of the depth that her usual characters have and the bad guys were to caricatured.
Performance by two of my favorite voices.

Great story!

A great second chance romance with low angst and likeable characters. It was low angst and had just enough sizzle. The narration was on point and easy listen.

Great series.

Great story, excellent narrators, the story has my full attention from the first few chapters. Enjoyable books with a little twists and turns to Lee the story interesting. On to A Little Too Wild.

sweet story

I really loved the story, the location and the characters.
there are tragedies that have left there mark.....but in the end. the love is bigger than the pain ❤️

Average

After reading other reviews I'm definitely in the minority when I say I didn't like this book. In fact, I'm also in the minority when I say I don't like Ava either, and I think Reed deserves better, both from Ava and from his father. Yes, he broke up with her when they were young but even after she found out how traumatized he was she still expected him to bend over backwoods to fit into her life with no compromises or sacrifices from her side.

The relationship with his dad was also badly written. Reed had to make all the concessions and forgive and forget without any real proof or indication that his dad has changed, or regretted how badly he treated his children for over a decade. Because faaaamily.

I'm trying not to give any spoilers but honestly, by the end I was hoping he'll let them sell that stupid hotel so he could move on without these toxic people in his life. The book premise had potential but it was ultimately let down by bad character development, toxic relationships that had no satisfying resolution, rushed ending and frankly, pretty average writing.

The only saving grace is the narration. Andi and Sebastian are, as usual, outstanding.
