Great historical fiction with a unique plot

Such a wonderful story with memorable, compelling characters and an intriguing plot. As usual with this author’s work, history is almost another character and faith plays an important role.

Elizabeth Camden never disappoints

I love this book. Elizabeth Camden has a way of keeping me tuned in and on the edge of my seat. This book went into a direction I didn’t see coming. I love that about all of her books.

Absolutely amazing

I absolutely loved this story! So intriguing and I honestly couldn’t predict where the story was going so I was always on my toes and excited to see what would happen next. I also learned a lot from a historical perspective. So far my favorite summer read!!

Clean interesting historical fiction

I really enjoyed this audible. Fell in love with characters and learned a lot about the beginning of secret service and what a very hard job they had protecting the POTUS in early 1900’s. It really held my attention. Mrs Camden had NO use for sex scenes profanity or gratuitous violence. Do you know why? She actually had a great story to share and didn’t need fluff or fillers. That’s my definition of a great writer

Really enjoyed this!

I love this author. Her books really have a lot of historical information as part of the story, not boring asides in the story. I enjoy the bit of romance in the story and the spiritual elements as well and I really appreciate that she tells a great story that isn’t just a romance and isn’t steamy and the author isn’t always going on about their physical attributes as some do. They are attractive but flawed individuals in an interesting period of history. This isn’t my favorite of her stories but is good enough I’ll listen to it more than once. Well read.

Good but also a bit confusing

Loved the narration and most of the story. I did find that the story development was a bit haphazard especially as the book waned. Things would happen disjointedly or dragged out unnaturally. Still overall a fairly good listen.

I was not crazy about either main character nor narrator

The main character.. I’m halfway through the book and can’t remember the male or female character’s names.. I find her annoying, snooty and
acting very out of character for a “lady” living during this time period. The man, who is SUPPOSED to be the head of security for the White House comes across as wimpy, weak and nerdy. Not very likable since the author has done her best to make the “lady” as masculine as possible and the “man” as feminine as possible. Those things are only acceptable in 2020, and only by people who either don’t read, don’t understand or don’t know anything about the Bible. God considers those things an abomination.. he wants women to be ladies and men to be MEN!
