Publisher's summary

Drawing on the true story of the White Rose - the resistance movement of young Germans against the Nazi regime - The Traitor tells of one woman who offers her life in the ultimate battle against tyranny, during one of history's darkest hours.

In the summer of 1942, as war rages across Europe, a series of anonymous leaflets appears around the University of Munich, speaking out against escalating Nazi atrocities. The leaflets are hidden in public places, or mailed to addresses selected at random from the phone book. Natalya Petrovich, a student, knows who is behind the leaflets - a secret group called the White Rose, led by siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl and their friends.

As a volunteer nurse on the Russian front, Natalya witnessed the horrors of war first-hand. She willingly enters the White Rose's circle, where every hushed conversation, every small act of dissent could mean imprisonment or death at the hands of an infuriated Gestapo. Natalya risks everything alongside her friends, hoping the power of words will encourage others to resist. But even among those she trusts most, there is no guarantee of safety - and when danger strikes, she must take an extraordinary gamble in her own personal struggle to survive.

Not all the Germans are guilty.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to know more about the innocent Germans who were against Hitler and the atrocities that he and his people committed.

My Musings

This book blends truth and fiction concerning the White Rose movement in Nazi Germany. It’s very well done with intriguing characters blended in with the factual members of the society. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Happy reading and listening!

Today or decades before?

Such a good book! I couldn’t help but to think the same thing is going on in Russia right now! Crazy to thing that this kind of life is present day for some! Wild! White Horse!

Great read

Talks about a Russian’s (but brought up German) point of view resisting against Adolf Hitler… Her story is great… I definitely recommend.

Great historical Novak

I’ve listened to “The Taster” and “The Traitor”. Both books were great, however, I believe the Taster was a bit better.

“The Taster” captured the reader/listeners from start to finish. Although a great story, it took a bit longer to get into “ The Traitor”

At the end, I would recommend both books with a slight nudge to “The Taster”.

Best, Glenda

Slow enough to stop

After 3.5 hrs of listening, I still wasn’t captured. Maybe the narrator should have been more captivating as the voice of the main character? The other characters had great voiceovers. However, I felt that the main character was bland. Maybe needed a Russian accent as she was Russian and not the perceived American English? Really hard to get into.

Narration is very distracting...

I'm halfway into the story and it's great, but will finish by reading the actual book. This narrator is reading, not performing, the book (sounds like it's computer generated, complete with glitches).
