Publisher's Summary

Three things about Justin Roberts:

  1. He’s a bully.
  2. Our relationship is toxic.
  3. He’s the only one who knows my secret.

A year ago, I woke in the morgue with a note in my hand telling me that I’m a vampire. I need blood or I’ll start killing people. Lucky for me, Justin has been sneaking into my bedroom and feeding me blood for a year, and the only price I have to pay for it is putting up with his cruel snipes and my unwanted feelings for him.

I just can’t figure out why he keeps coming back.

But all that changes when I’m offered a full-ride scholarship to Justin’s mysterious school, the elite Blackburn Academy, where I might finally learn about vampires. About myself. All I have to do is pass the grueling entrance trials, and the scholarship will be mine. Problem is, Justin doesn’t want me anywhere near his elite school and rich friends. He’s vowed to sabotage me.

Justin may have been feeding me blood for a year, but he doesn’t know who he’s up against.

But, Blackburn Academy is more than it seems. I’ll be facing more than what Justin Roberts alone can dish out.

Will competing in the trials be the new beginning I’m hoping for, or will it end my undead existence?

Enthralling story

I loved this first audiobook in the Bite Me series. You soon find yourself immersed in the struggles and intrigue that is January’s life. From living in a condemned house with an alcoholic, drug addicted mother, to getting hit by a truck and waking up a vampire; she takes on all challenges thrown at her and makes the best she can of the situations she finds herself in. Justin is a complex character, one that at times you both love and hate. He is caught in a life that to outsiders seems to be idiotically privileged but mysteries and secrets surround his life. Their relationship, like their lives, is convoluted and filled with surprises. The Bad Boys Club are a great set of characters that add a sense of humour to the story and you can not help but like them. The mystery of the Academy will keep you wondering and the intrigue, twists, threats and romance will keep you pinned to the pages. The narrator of the audiobook does a great job of bringing the story to life and giving the characters individual voices. Her pace is just right and she brings out the tension and emotion in the story well. This is an enthralling audiobook that leaves you wanting the next in the series.

Addicting story with incredible characters

There were times throughout this book where I literally wished I could punch a character in the face and also times where I wanted to comfort others. Excellent writing style and relatable characters that made this fantastical story seem almost realistic. It’s a definite must read and I sincerely cannot wait until the next book in the series.

A tantalizing start

This audiobook really captured my attention with the incredible narration and the fresh take on vampire lore. The lead girl January is a high school senior and vampire who's ended up in a toxic relationship with Justin, a boy who's been supplying her blood for the past year. When she moves to a fancy neighborhood and gets offered a scholarship to an elite boarding school, things seem to be looking up. Until Justin tries to sabotage it all. It's a mystery throughout the book why Justin acts the way he does, but it gets explained in the end. However, the explanation only opens more questions about January's past, which will hopefully be answered in future books in the series. The narration is wonderfully done with lots of different character voices and emotion. It's easy to tell who's talking and when as narrator Rebekah Nemethy makes each character voice distinct and notable.

Good Beginning Of Series

Bite Me does it's job at being first in series - it gives the reader enough information to suck them in but also leaves them wanting more. I like that this is not your typical Vampire story. There are other "creatures" and powers (abilities) but alot of that is kept secret and I am sure more will be revealed as the series progresses. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the characters and story to life. The characters are in depth and the world building on point as is usual from this author - I look forward to Book 2

A Great Vampire Story With A Twist!

I'm not usually a fan of Vampire stories, but I decided to give this a shot and I'm sure as heck glad that I did. Straddling's Academy book is nothing like most Vampire nor Academy books out there right now. It's full of danger, constants twists, romance, and a mysterious school that has bound its students from talking about anything of sigificance about it. I loved that the narrator could do the guy voices, and do them fairly well! Not only that, but her performance was fantastic! The plot, along with the fabulous narrator, kept me engaged and attentive to the story the entire way through. This is a huge feat considering how picky I am with my audible books as well as vampire books. Overall, I was super excited with how much I enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one!

Amazing set up for the series

This was an intriguing start to a new series! Days before January’s sixteenth birthday, she wakes up in a morgue with a slip of paper saying that she’s a vampire and a number to call for blood. Justin, her obnoxious and toxic boyfriend, has been feeding her blood for her to survive for about a year. January moves in with her grandmother who is a maid for Justin’s family which makes him colder and more rude before. She’s then offered a full ride to Blackburn Academy, Justin’s mysterious school, but she has to pass the entrance trials. She has to prove that she has what it takes or her undead life might end. January’s personality was very human even though she was a vampire. I liked that she had a good head on her shoulders, is strong and independent, and has a good heart. I really loved the ongoing love/ hate relationship between January and Justin and eventually finding out what secrets he was keeping in the end. This book weaves in real like problems such as addiction, classism, family, financial issues, and toxic relationships. Blackburn Academy and the story itself are mysterious with many twists and turns. Although this wasn’t what I was expecting, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next installment!
Rebekah did a fantastic job with this narration! I loved that she brought the tension, emotions, and mystery to life with her performance. She had different voices for each character and definitely added to the experience of this amazing story!

Good start to a series

Mixed feelings here as high schoolers act more like more college-age characters. However, it is engaging and sets up a storyline that I suspect will really get going in subsequent books. The Narrator is good with most character voices. Our main protagonist does a lot of inner dialogs, and it's sometimes confusing when listening to determine "is she thinking or speaking out loud?" Definitely worth a listen...

My first completed audiobook!

I received a free copy of this audiobook from a giveaway that Rita Stradling posted on her newsletter emails. I had attempted to listen to an audiobook a few months ago, but gave up halfway because I couldn't stand listening to my books instead of actually reading them. When Stradling sent out her email for the audiobook giveaway, I thought, why not give it another try, and I'm so glad I did! First, I can't believe I actually received a copy, I never win anything, lol so that was a surprise by itself. Second, the narrator did a phenomenal job with all the characters personalities and differentiating their voices so the listener was never confused as to whom was speaking. Now, on to the story. I loved it! I had read a few of Stradling's books before, so I already knew I enjoyed her work, and this story was no different. She captured teenage drama very well, without it being unbelievable, and the pacing was excellent. I enjoyed all the different characters and the way they interacted with each other, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I will probably still end up reading this book as a refresher before the next one comes out since I retain information better when it is written down, but that doesn't mean I didn't like this audiobook. if you enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend you listen to this one!

A Enticing Start To This Delicious PNR Series

This book has an engaging story line that will keep you focused and invested. I loved January and thought she was an amazing heroine. Realistic, spunky, sarcastic, smart, kind and fierce, she is someone you would love to be friends with because she has a heart of gold and she is genuine. Justin will pull your emotions in different directions. You will find yourself on the fence as what seems like his obvious affection and desire for January is clouded by secrets, evasions, a bad attitude and hurtful actions that he takes against her. Is he friend or is he foe? Only time will tell as the story unfolds. Drama, twists, secrets, danger, humor, angst, emotional turmoil, passion and romance are woven throughout this book and will keep you needing more. Included is a vast and stellar cast of supporting characters that help round out the book, while adding so much to it. Many of whom I would love to see get their own books. I had previously read an ebook copy of this release and loved it, so the audiobook had a lot to live up to. I am so happy to say that it surpassed my expectations. The narrator delivered an amazing performance that was like whipped cream on pie. Sure the pie is perfectly delicious without the whipped cream but we all know the whipped cream makes it more special and just better. This book is only the first in a series and as such it ends on a very light cliffhanger. In my you could totally enjoy this as a standalone, as it wraps up with a happy for now. I myself want to delve so much deeper into this enticing world and am already craving book two.
