It’s no secret that I’ve been in love with Jax Cartwright for half my life. A terrible decision, really, and not just because he’s my brother’s best friend or he’s ten years older than me. Thanks to an overprotective family, he’s ignored me for years, but still, I can’t get his grumpy a** out of my head. And in a wine-fueled, post-bad date funk, I make another terrible decision: show up at his cabin to ask why he’s never given me a chance. The storm that got me stuck there overnight was a total fluke, but I’m no fool. While Jax is perfectly clear about not wanting a family or love or any of the happily-ever-afters I’ve dreamed of, what’s the harm in asking for just one night? The worst thing he can say is no.

He doesn’t though, and I was saying yes, yes, yes a whole lot after that.

Best. Decision. Ever.

One night is enough to feel like I can move on, and we agree to let it be a secret kept safe between us.

But you know what makes it hard to keep a one-night secret about my not-so-secret crush?

A positive pregnancy test. Oh baby, things are about to get interesting.

A great raw story of unrequited love between a little sister and her brothers tall dark and broody best friend. Well written, authentic and realistic. It’s been awhile since I read other books in this series so I don’t remember if they were as good but this was fantastic.

Wonderful!

Loved this audible book. The characters are ones you just love. Their story was so beautiful and at times it was surprising on the turns that happened. I cried at the heartfelt story at Jax and his memories of his childhood and the time he visited with his mentor. You appreciate all that he had to overcome and how much love her had to offer Poppy. Thanks for sharing this story.

Forever Starts Tonight is the fourth book in the Wilder Family series and follows Poppy and Jax. Their story is heartbreaking and beautiful. I was hooked from the start and devoured this story in one sitting. Karla has a special gift and writes stories that stick with me. Not everyone enjoys the surprise pregnancy trope, but I truly feel it was done well in this story.

Poppy has always felt something more for Jax, her brother’s best friend, but she has only been seen as the little sister in his eyes. Determined to change that, she visits Jax at his secluded cabin, only for an ice storm to trap them together. They share a night that they agree will be a one-time thing, which leads to a surprise. When Jax returns from a three-month soul-searching trip abroad, they must face the reality of their situation.

I loved Poppy and Jax together. They had amazing chemistry, and I enjoyed witnessing the development of their relationship. Jax's background added a deeper element to the story, and explains why he was afraid to accept Poppy's love. I loved the growth he experienced throughout the story. He was determined to take care of Poppy and give her everything she needed. Poppy showed that she was a safe space for Jax and that she would take care of his heart. This book has the perfect mix of heartfelt moments, tension, passion, and humor. I love the Wilder family and can't wait to read more.

Narration:
Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais perform this audiobook in dual-style narration. They can do no wrong in my eyes and are two of my absolute favorites. I will listen to anything they narrate. Samantha and Connor brought Poppy and Jax's story to life and made it impossible for me to stop listening. They delivered the tension, heartbreak, and heat for this brother’s best friend, age gap, and unrequited love romance.

I love love love Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais!

This is one of those reads I really REALLY need that half star extra for. Not quite 5 stars, primarily because I absolutely go nuts (in a bad way) when the family starts interfering too much (for my taste).

But after Jax gets back from his personal sabbatical, the book ramps up to 5 star levels. I love Henry, and I love how he had the right thing to say to Jax when Jax needed to hear it. I did really like Poppy, but Jax really won my heart when he figured out how to get over his fears of getting too close to anyone.

The voice narrators are absolutely the reason I enjoyed this book as much as I did. They’re both very talented in bringing the characters to life& making the scenes literally leap off the page. They’re in my top favorites list-a definite plus. The story itself was an emotional one, I cried at several parts. However, I thought it was fairly predictable &all the characters are too perfect. Even though I enjoyed the story, it would have been better if characters had some realistic flaws . Jax’s transformation at the end was unbelievable & too rushed. Also of note: several times the single baby was referred to as “ they’re “?? Overall it was a great audiobook! I enjoyed reading a heartfelt , lighter , feel-good story.

Narration was absolute perfection! Both are 2 of my favorites and they gave this story life!

My favorite Wilder family story yet. I am so in love with this family and especially this sweet couple.

The best!

Some of the banter really had me laughing, & the Henry scene & the ending scene had me quietly crying. This was a good, sweet, blended family story, with childhood baggage thrown in. The Wilder siblings’ strong personalities were hilarious.

Connor Crais was a good, flat, broody, closed off Jax, & Samantha Brentmoor portrayed a strong, but vulnerable, Poppy. I struggled a bit with Samantha’s male voices, but overall she delivered.

I would like to know how Poppy’s odd interim boyfriend fared in the end, & to see Jax & his mother find closure.

While this book is a slow burn, it’s definitely worth a listen.
