He’s not just a narrator!

Connor is one of my favorite narrator’s so I was really excited for this book. It was so well written and the story was so good I think it should be made into a movie.

I was so excited for this book. I've been a huge fan of Connor Crais for many years now. I couldn't wait for his debut novel. it did not disappoint. Mr. Crais, you sir, can write! this was exciting, sweet, sexy, beautiful and intriguing. when I described it to my husband, he wanted to listen to it too. it has everything. action, adventure, romance, blood and an HEA. like I said before, this book is poetry. it is written so beautifully. there were lines in it that I had never heard in other books. things I can't wait to get a physical copy of this book to find and mark. I read it in one day. it was perfection. the narration was amazing too. of course you can't get much better than Connor narrating. this book was funny too and having him give the Inflection of the funny parts. chefs kiss. all in all, this is a must buy. you can't go wrong with this book. it is enjoyable and satisfying. I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series. now, the book was released on 2.26.26 but didnt come to Audible until 3.9.26. keep that timeline in mind for future books. Thank you Connor for your talent and your story.

I had the privilege of listening to an advanced listening copy of Bright Light Dark Thunder by Connor Crais, and it is everything a military romantic suspense should be…relentless, gritty, emotional, and unapologetically romantic.
From the first chapter, the story feels cinematic. Walker Cole lives in isolation, burdened by guilt and shaped by a past that made him lethal by design. When Naomi Barrett (escaped, armed, and desperate) collides with his solitary existence, the tension is immediate. Their connection simmers beneath suspicion, danger, and unanswered questions, building into a slow-burn romance that feels both inevitable and earned.
What sets this book apart is the balance. The action is sharp and immersive…deadly encounters, narrow escapes, conspiracies that feel almost plausible but the romance never fades into the background. Connor Crais writes with a distinctly masculine POV energy while still delivering the emotional nuance romance readers like me crave. His prose has a poetic weight to it, especially in Walker’s introspection. Lines such as…“Through the scope, the bear is still magnificent. And I can’t deny the strange kinship I feel with it. Both killers by design—the bear by God, me by man. Both dangerous. Both alone. Our scars tell the story of our sins and our survival.”
That kind of romantic language (raw, reflective, edged with self-awareness) elevates the story beyond pure adrenaline. Walker’s internal struggle between wrath and tenderness is beautifully captured in moments such as: “Wrath is the sin I’m used to. He’s been my companion. Lust is a brand-new one on me.”
The romance itself is intense, protective, and deeply intimate. When Walker says, “Naomi, come for me, darlin’,” it’s not just spice…it’s vulnerability wrapped in heat!! Even in the darker, possessive moments, there’s an undercurrent of devotion. And when he declares, “Nothing’s going to keep me from saving Naomi,” you believe him completely!!
Naomi is no passive heroine. She’s strong, capable, and willing to stand toe to toe with Walker. Their chemistry sparks early, even when they’re unsure of each other. Once they surrender to the pull between them, the emotional payoff hits just as hard as the action sequences.
And the narration? Exceptional. There is something uniquely powerful about an author narrating his own work. Connor Crais understands Walker at a cellular level, and it shows. The subtle Texas drawl, the gravel threaded through moments of restraint, the softness that slips in when Walker lets his guard down…it all feels intentional and authentic. His solo narration never falters…each character is distinct and alive. The villain carries a chilling presence, smooth and menacing, making the stakes feel even higher. If you have heard Connor voice villains, then you know what I mean! The audiobook experience amplifies everything…the suspense tightens, the emotional beats land deeper, and the romantic language feels even more intimate when delivered in Crais’s voice.
