I struggled to get into the book at the start and had to restart entire chapters cause I realized I hadn't even been listening.

once immersed though following along as, step by step, battle by battle, Kasper becomes one of the Vlka Fenryka. You don't realize it until the last chapter that you kinda feel like you'te part of the pack also as the Skald tells one of his best accounts.

that last chapter is amazing!

That last chapter. Wow!

A story of Kasper Ansbach Hawser service to the Space Wolves to remember their stories and to recall the tales.

The first time through the book, I couldn’t get into it. I listened to Thousands Sons first then this novel, and was comparing the two books, which was wrong to do! The second time, I listened to both again with Nemesis in the middle, and that was the key! This book needs Nemesis to allow the space required to focus without comparing it to A Thousand Sons. If you didn’t like it the first time, listen to Nemesis and give it another try! Great book!!!

Give this book another chance

This book is my favorite of the series so far! It invokes true emotion in certain parts while still keeping the classic grim dark feeling of the universe.

The BEST

this book shines a light on the Horus heresy. it's praise is not over hyped. get this book, period.

what a great perspective

I really wanted to dislike this book, because Space Wolves are the literal worst, and The Thousand Sons are my second-favorite legion. But then the book began by talking about how terrible the wolves are, and ended by talking about the nobility and courage of the 15th. And also, the storytelling was SO FREAKING GOOD! This was a masterclass in how to construct a novel.

Magnus did nothing wrong

loved the story, loved the narrator. went into this book blind and did not anticipate how little the events the book gets it's namesake from would represent. but the intrigue, action, mystery and growth experienced by the point of view character, the reveals and conclusions of every event have brought this book up to one of my favorites out of the entire series.

also: take a shot every time Dan abnett describes something as a "wet, leopard's growl"

remarkable

Great follow up to Thousand Sons. Dan's writing is amazing. Can't wait to start the next book.

Great story telling

In going through the HH series right now and it’s great, but it was getting repetitive. This is an excellent change of pace with a surprising amount of mystery to it. Definitely raised my opinion of the wolves.

Dan Abnett is the GOAT

I love the space wolves now thanks to Dan Abnett. The story and narrator were both exceptional with a story that balances both action and intrigue with many exciting twists and turns.

An astounding listen
