Eines Tages findet Tischler Antonio ein Holzscheit, das zu sprechen anfängt. Da ihm die Sache nicht geheuer ist, schenkt er es seinem Freund, dem Holzschnitzer Geppetto. Geppetto ist von dem Holzklotz begeistert und beginnt sogleich mit dem Schnitzen einer Holzpuppe, die er nach getaner Arbeit Pinocchio tauft. "Mi piacciono i toscanismi della lingua di Collodi, adoro la sua voce e le voci dei suoi personaggi, che io provavo ad accennare quando leggevo il racconto ai figlioli prima di addormentarli. Le sue pagine sembrano fatte apposta per la lettura ad alta voce. La voce di Collodi è aspra, concreta, esatta, abrasiva. Ha una musica stupenda, ruvida, e a volte può essere languida e dolcissima, ma sempre accompagnata da un sorrisetto di beffa. Collodi vuole bene ai suoi personaggi, al suo protagonista, ma allo stesso tempo li prende in giro, li sfotte, li avvolge in una luce ironica"

Il racconto di Daniele Fior, in questa rinnovata edizione, si fa ancora più intenso, giocoso, avvolgente: un incedere incalzante tra zone di luce e ombra, dove ci sembra di palpare il buio della notte in cui l'insonne Pinocchio è sperduto e di camminargli a fianco nei polverosi solleoni delle sue traversate. Le chitarre di Francesco Catalucci sono un contrappunto cucito a pennello sul racconto che aprono paesaggi sonori dolce-amari.
