As management reels from the unexpected conclusion of the seventh level, the surviving crawlers stumble onto the eighth and find themselves scattered. It’s a map based on Earth’s final days before the collapse, where ethereal, intangible ghosts of humanity go about their lives, oblivious of the impending doom. Living amongst these ghosts are monsters based in Earth lore. “Legendary” creatures tied to the geographical location they inhabit.

Each team of crawlers is given a task: find and capture six of these beasts. The captured monsters will be turned into cards. Cards that can be summoned into battle again and again. The stronger and deadlier the better.

At the end of the floor, the bad guys will also have decks, and they will have some of the most powerful cards available. So it’s crucial to assemble the toughest squad possible.

But like always, there is a catch. There’s always a catch.

As Carl and Donut know all too well, just because someone is captured, it doesn’t mean they have been tamed.

Her name is Shi Maria. She’s easily the most powerful monster in their area. If they want to survive, they must capture her. But she is no ordinary beast. She’s intelligent. She was once married to a god, a god who is now missing. Her special attack is known to drive one insane. They call her the Bedlam Bride.

Hitchhikers Guide and Hunger Games had a Three Way with Tarantino

I first discovered DCC during the pandemic and I caught a fever for this story and not the other thing. I gave it to my girlfriend as well and we have binged the entire series multiple times. The first book is really good, the second is better and they keep getting better as the world gets bigger and more complex. Whenever I describe this series to the uninitiated I say it’s like Hitchhiker’s Guide and Hunger Games had a Three Way with a DND movie directed by Quinton Tarantino. There is no better pairing of writer and vocal performance that I am aware of than Matt and Jeff in all of Audible. As far as this specific installment of the series goes… if you have made it this far and don’t realize how epic it is, there is no help for you :-)

Hard to put down!

Saying I was hooked is an understatement. I found myself almost incapable of stopping the book. Truly is best book yet. Wonderful imagery and twists, that will both disgust and thrill.

It just keeps getting better

I’ve never found a series like DCC but I pray it inspires some similar works in the future. It’s emotional, hilarious, exciting, tragic, and rage inducing all at the same time. It also has some of the best voice acting I’ve heard. Thanks Dinny Daddy! Jk, but please keep it up.

Such a fun series looking forward to the next

great story, I can't put this book down. every character is interesting and has complex goals that span multiple books.

Still awesome entertainment. I didn't really like the card game but the bigger story was compelling. And why would Soundbooth Theater mess with a winning formula? I didn't like the addition of sound effects and voice and volume distortions. Please don't dilute the talent.

Just love this series

After every book finishes, I immediately go look and see if the author has announced the next one. This is absolutely my favorite series, and I can not wait for book 7. I'll follow it for however far it goes. hopefully, it doesn't end anytime soon. #DonutHoles

Another great book in the series!

Once again, I was taken on a journey of emotions. I laughed. I cheered. I groaned. I shook my head in disbelief on the things that some of the characters had to do. Overall, it was great imo.

Mind. Blown!

How in the world does each of these novels keep ratcheting up the intensity, humor, emotions, AND multi-world political intrigue WITHOUT constantly recycling traditional tropes?! I got a good chuckle and decent entertainment out of the first couple of books, but then . . . holy feces! This runaway train just keeps delivering!!! Can't wait for the next one!

Loved it

I'm eagerly waiting on the next installment. I put off buying this series for a while not knowing if I would like it or not. Now I have a hard time waiting for the next one and then have a hard time putting it down to even sleep. Thank you Matt.
