Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Publisher's Summary
New achievement! Total, utter failure.
You failed a quest less than five minutes after you received it. Now that’s talent.
A floating fortress occupied by warrior gnomes. A castle made of sand. A derelict submarine guarded by malfunctioning machines. A haunted crypt surrounded by lethal traps.
It was supposed to be easy. One bubble. Four castles. Fifteen days. Capture each one, and the stairwell is unlocked.
Here's the thing. It's never easy. Carl and his team can't go it alone. Not this time. They must rely on the help of the low-level, I-can't-believe-these-idiots-are-still-alive crawlers trapped in the bubble with them. But can they be trusted?
Welcome, Crawler. Welcome to the fifth floor of the dungeon.

So like Princess Donut, I too opened this box before reading the details... 100% worth it. I've never enjoyed listening, as I've always preferred reading. With that said, this series and the voice actors who bring it to life have captivated me every single step of the way. Hell, I joined Patreon just to get the sneak peaks! Masterpiece
Do not, I repeat do not listen to negative reviews. They are either paid for by competition or a moron that read this book.
This may be my favorite litrpg audio book I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This author is genius. I was never bored and could listen for hours on end. The story is thrilling and the narration is flawless. The growth of Carl into what he becomes is step by step. Never is there a point where he does something out of character. Instead you see exactly how the horrors and challenges mold him into what he becomes. I was on the edge of my seat and could listen for hours asking myself "how are they going to get out of this mess?"
If any reviews say it is too complicated to follow, I'm sorry you aren't intelligent enough for this series. Move on. However I was enthralled and able to process this wonder filled story with so many layers, astounded by the scope the author was able to imagine.
Here is a tip for any new audible listeners. Pause the book and process things when something wild or heavy goes down. Talk it out loud. I do this frequently (when I'm alone haha) and it really does help.
Just an amazing read and I cannot wait for the next. Great job. 👍

Jeff Hays is as Awesome as Always
So far I have loved all of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books, this one, I would say, is my least favorite. The story itself is complicated and convoluted, and seems to drag on in places. It was hard to follow at times.
The narrator, Jeff Hays, makes the story enjoyable even when it's confusing. He's doing his best with the story as it's written.
I look forward to the next installment and hope it's a bit less confusing than this one was.
If you haven't read the first three books, I would suggest you start the series with book one as the stories build on each other and the author doesn't spend a lot of time talking about what happened in a previous book.

this series should be the standard for this genre
as litrpg's go this book has it in the right portions, this is book 4 and the characters are not OP, however they are still steadily growing. it spends just enough time talking about stats and skills without the narrator having to read through a spreadsheet which can be tedious. and the information presented is done in an interactive way relative to the character more part of the story.
if you have ever listened to any book read by Jeff hayes, you know the quality of the narration is beyond reproach. he has an amazing range of voices and an awesome ability to give them ALL a life of their own.
now having said all the above, these books are FANTASTIC, Matt Dinniman has an amazing way of slowly presenting just enough details so you can draw your own conclusion without having to spell it out for you.
they are also hilariously wonderful, sometimes subtle sometimes obvious and over the top, but always funny. this book in the series is much heavier at times with some larger and more complex story archs taking place but Matt did it right by pacing it all and mixing in some laughs. I will be listening many times.

Another excellent Dungeon Crawler Carl book
When I started this series, I really expected a stupid super-spoofy comedyesque type book good for a couple of chuckles. It is a bit spoofy and has some LOL moments, but it's also an excellent LitRPG story. Matt Dinniman continues to put out excellent material. If you want a little laugh, a little OMG that is so stupid, and in a LitRPG story without the excessive stat sheet reading, this series is for you. If you are a serious LitRPGer and don't like spoofy stupid material in your stories, this story probably isn't for you. The only major problem is that the title should be Dungeon Crawler Donut, but now I'm just nit picking. ;-p
Oh, I should mention some regular adult language. This is not for kids and you might want to use a headset. It's not excessive, but it's there.

Just listened to all 4 books in this series for the 3rd time while waiting for the next one. Even though I know the story there are plenty of lines which make me laugh out loud still. The story is great, building nicely from book to book. The characters are fully fleshed out entities you want to be a part of. The whole thing is brought to life wonderfully by the narrator with his catalogue of voices which I still find myself forgetting is just 1 person. Get out there and read, read, read!

its a fantastic continuation of the story which keeps up the pace and doesn't get bogged down or repetitive.

From ever not listening to this series. Always a blast and now I'm sad I can't listen to more right now.

I literally cannot
If you have made it this far into the series, there is no need for me to entice you further. This book is a masterpiece, the narration is superb, and the end credits are iconic. Long live Samantha! Already gagging for the next one.
