Publisher's summary

Written on three continents and one island, Zanzibar embodies the adventurous spirit and fascination with the "Dark Continent" during the tumultuous age of colonialism in Victorian England.

With sweeping sensuality, Zanzibar explores the dangerous journey across Zanzibar Island and the East African continent to delve into the world of slaves and masters, both of the body and the heart.

Based on initial research done on African harems, Zanzibar takes the listener on a wild ride into exotic climes and the human psyche.

SECOND TIME AROUND—EVEN BETTER

Having already read Zanzibar from cover to cover, I wasn’t prepared to love this historical romance novel even more as an audio book, but I did. This time, as the talented narrator Gary Appleton read the author’s beautifully rendered descriptions, I was able to slow down and savor the way the author Arabella Pascal artfully set the scene. He also excelled with the dialogue as well, giving life and personality to the conversations between Charlotte Earnshaw, her sister Fiona, Jasim Bin Rashid, the prince of Zanzibar, Derek Gallwey and all of the other characters.
You may have found other book reviews that employ the term "page-turner," but this novel, which ended too soon, in my estimation, will not disappoint. It is the real deal. Not only does this author "own" the historic romance genre—the novel is set in Victorian England— but she kicked my expectations up a notch with her exciting pace, vivid descriptions, steamy sex scenes and satisfying ending. She was able to transport me to another world--the engaging and exotic island of Zanzibar. I can't wait for Arabella Pascal's next novel. Hope it's soon.
