Publisher's summary

Set against the atmospheric snowy backdrop of the rural Pacific Northwest, New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti's edgy, gripping thriller will have listeners guessing until the very end.

Men are dying in the Pacific Northwest, their bodies found near churches, charities, and counseling centers—each with valentine candy hearts shoved down their throats. They're good men with families and community ties—or so they seem until FBI profiler Laurel Snow and her team begin to investigate. Then the case takes a shockingly personal turn when the father she's never met, a former pastor, turns up among the dead.

Now, besides solving her father's murder, Laurel is on the hunt to discover the truth of his past. Complicating things is Laurel's troubled half-sister, Abigail, a brilliant sociopath determined to prove that they've both inherited their father's malignant narcissism.

Assisting Laurel is Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, a dangerous loner whose reliance on gut instinct puts him at odds with Laurel's coolly analytic approach. But the choice may be moot when the killer hones in on Huck's own dark secrets—putting him and Laurel squarely in the crosshairs.

Another fantastic book in this series!

This book is another true masterpiece written by Rebecca Zanetti! I just finished listening to the story, and my mind is still reeling and trying to process everything I just listened to. The way Rebecca Zanetti writes just grabs the reader's attention instantly, and the reader becomes fully invested in what is happening. I feel like Rebecca Zanetti is magical with the way she crafts her storyline and weaves various events together to ensure that her readers feel like they are part of the story, I was not able to figure out where the story was going and many times I am able to figure some if not all of the plot line, however with Rebecca Zanetti stories I usually am stumped which is nice!

Laurel Snow is such a wonderfully complex character, and I just love her. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow and change throughout this series.

Abigail Crane is extremely terrifying!! I have no idea how Laurel will deal with her sister, but I'm definitely afraid, yet eagerly waiting to see what happens. I just hope that Laurel is able to, for lack of better wording, 'take Abigail out' before Abigail can cause even more damage!

I can't wait for Laurel and Abigail's 'father' to have his comeuppance! That certainly will be a scary and interesting situation. I have no doubt that Rebecca Zanetti will write something that will amaze all of her fans!

And, of course, what can I say about Captain Huck Rivers except yummy! He is also a complex character that I absolutely love and adore! I love the way he interacts with Laurel, and I am looking forward to how things will progress in the next book. I can't say more than that because I will not give away spoilers!

in a nutshell, this was a phenomenal story, so well written and plotted out, character development was phenomenal, I think I definitely felt all the feels, and I highly recommend this series and literally everything that Rebecca Zanetti has written!! If this is not your genre, then look at other books written by her because she writes in several genres and truly does an amazing job. Rebecca Zanetti is a very gifted and talented storyteller!

I read parts of this book on my Kindle and listened to portions in Audible, and both ways are phenomenal! I even purchased the book in paperback, so whichever way is your reading preference, you won't be disappointed!!

Another hit by Zanetti. Narrator: so, so, but loved the storyline. Hope the saga continues.

So much going on but in a good and entertaining way. Not predictable and pacing was good for me

I liked this addition to the series. Laurel Snow is smart and her associates are pretty good too. The only thing I didn’t like was the evolution or discovery of how the reporter chick kept getting leads on her case. That crazy Abigail is still being crazy. Will be glad to hear when her crimes are revealed, along with that awful male parent. Overall good book night liked it.

Another action packed storyline....

4.5 Stars 🌟

I felt lucky this week that I got to read two different ARC's from Rebecca Zanetti. If anyone knows me, then you know that she is one of my favorite authors and is an automatic buy for me, regardless of the genre or specific series that she is writing about. I pretty much love it all.

This is the 3rd book in her new series about Laurel Snow - a very unique FBI agent and Profiler who has relocated (kind of, sort of willingly) to the Pacific Northwest, started dating the local (and very wonderful and handsome) Fish and Wildlife agent there - Captain Huck Rivers. Oh, and she just happens to discover that she has a brilliant yet VERY psychopathic newfound sister who seems to be just a tad TOO focused on her - and definitely not in any way that would be considered normal.

This series is not one that is full of depth. The books so far tend to be fairly fast paced and easy to read/listen to. They are action packed with lots of drama. I do like the main characters - Laurel is turning out to be more complicated than we initially thought, and her sister, well, let's just say that she is quite scary in her obsessions. I REALLY like Huck as a love interest. He does just the right amount of being supportive and helpful and somehow just knowing exactly the right amount of space that Laurel seems to need.

There is a great group of secondary characters that we are also learning more about as we get deeper into this series. So far, I've enjoyed each of the books and they really do go by quickly. Before you know it, you get to the climax, find out about a twist or two in there and then realize that the story is over. Bummer. But, the good news is that the bigger and overarching storyline is just getting started. It's going to be fun watching this play out. There also sure seems to be a lot of serial killers surrounding our characters in this series :)

I like Amy Landon as a narrator for the most part, but for some reason her portrayal of certain male characters tends to bother me a bit. Not too much to be a distraction, but enough that I am beginning to notice it more and more.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

Same state, same agents, new killer

Rating 4 1/2 stars. Another solid addition to the Laurel Snow series. Crazy sister is back and Laurel is navigating all her manipulations and issues, assuming she doesn’t want to kill her yet. And Mr Huckalicious is present and involved with the hunt for the latest serial killer. I’m thinking… with each book set in the Pacific Northwest winter and has a serial killer present, I would never want to visit that part of the woods, state, region. Audio version was awesome too.
