Publisher's summary
Why is it that women, who are so competent in all other areas of their lives, cannot find the same competence when it comes to matters of money?
Suze Orman investigates the complicated, dysfunctional relationship women have with money in this groundbreaking audiobook. With her signature mix of insight, compassion, and soul-deep recognition, she equips women with the financial knowledge and emotional awareness to overcome the blocks that have kept them from making more out of the money they make.
At the center of the audiobook is the Save Yourself Plan - a streamlined, five-month program that delivers genuine long-term financial security. But what’s at stake is far bigger than money itself: It’s about every woman’s sense of who she is, what she deserves, and why it all begins with the decision to save yourself.
Critic reviews
“A one-woman financial advice powerhouse.... She’s playing a vital role in the financial education of many people.” (USA Today)

Story
Money. We love it. We hate it. If we don't have enough, we're struggling to get more. If we do have it, we're fighting to hold on to it. Why does money have to be such a source of anxiety? Is it possible to find peace? Yes! According to master integrative coach Nancy Levin, the real key to creating financial freedom isn't changing what we do, it's changing our limiting beliefs - and that requires more than just learning how to invest.

Why do we lose money? It's easy to blame the economy or the financial markets - but the real trouble lies in the decisions we make. As a financial planner, Carl Richards grew frustrated watching people he cared about make the same mistakes over and over. They were letting emotion get in the way of smart financial decisions. He named this phenomenon - the distance between what we should do and what we actually do - "the behavior gap". He found that once people understood it, they started doing much better.

Twenty-five years ago, I set off on my own with nothing but a folding table and a phone. For years, real success eluded me. I told people I was doing well when I was often on the edge of being broke. Millions of people face the same plight - including my beloved brother-in-law, who died tragically before he could fix his money problems. That was my wake-up call. I knew I needed more money, but I didn't know how to get it. I only turned things around by getting honest with myself, taking responsibility, and figuring out some practical solutions. Weren't women supposed to have "arrived"? Perhaps with the nation's first female president, equal pay on the horizon, true diversity in the workplace to come thereafter? Or at least the end of "fat shaming" and "locker room talk"? Well, we aren't quite there yet. But does that mean that progress for women in business has come to a screeching halt? It's true that the old rules didn't get us as far as we hoped. But we can go the distance, and we can close the gaps that still exist. We just need a new way.

We are all weird about money. Whether you have a lot or a little, your feelings and beliefs about money have been shaped by a combination of silence (or even shame) around talking about money, personal experiences, family and societal expectations, and a whole big complex system rigged against many of us from the start. Begin with that baseline premise and it’s no surprise so many of us find it so difficult to save enough money, emotionally draining to deal with student loans, and nearly impossible to understand the esoteric world of investing.
