Surprised at how wonderful, useful and insightful!

At first I was expecting this book to be about Abuja, it is not. Check out the chapter headings, it is a FABULOUS compendium of travel tips, stories and cultural insights and experiences from a very well-traveled "citizen of the world!" I learned interesting things about so many places, for example, did you know that only two other countries besides the US use the imperial system of measurement (ounces, miles, inches) while the rest of the world uses the metric system? The most spoken language is not what I expected, and how Americans are perceived in different corners of the world was fascinating to me. Race and ethnicity are touched upon as well as traveling as a female. Every chapter was chock full of helpful advice, information and suggestions. This would be a terrific book for classroom reading, new travelers as well as anyone wanting to travel from the comfort of their armchair. Be forewarned, you may get the travel bug, who wouldn't want to learn about our shared humanity and become a wise and worldly person? Highly recommend it, I have both the print version and audible version.

A great journey with the author

Welcome Back to Abuja Once Again is part memoir, part travel guide, part inspiration especially for the novice traveler. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing how Carol Yee became a world traveler and the role her family played in her love for travel. She also weaves in her family's history and the stories of other travelers she has known. She offers many practical tips for travel along with cultural considerations as we move through the world. While Carol talks about the importance of being flexible and calm when travel plans go awry, this book is also a lovely essay on how to roll with the ups and downs of life whether at home or on a bus in South Africa.

A resource for international living

To change the world you have to change your perspective, and to change your perspective you have to travel to see the world. Welcome to Abuja Once Again helps you to do just that. It is not just a well written book but a resource for anyone willing to open their mind to the transformation that comes from experiencing cultures other than the one they come from. Initially I thought it was a book about the author's experience living in Abuja Nigeria. Carol however went beyond that to taking the reader on a global journey and experience.
