Publisher's summary

One of AudioFile Magazine's Best Audiobooks of 2019: "[Euan] Morton brings distinct voices and emotions to every character.... Listeners will be hard-pressed to believe they aren't listening to a full-cast production." (AudioFile, Earphones Award Winner)

The hotly anticipated sequel to the number one best seller Carry On

Simon Snow is back and he's coming to America!

The story is supposed to be over.

Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after....

So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?

What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light....

That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place....

With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has delivered an audiobook for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And an audiobook for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first. It’s another helping of sour cherry scones with an absolutely decadent amount of butter.

Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over - but your life has just begun.

Critic reviews

"Morton brings distinct voices and emotions to every character - from posh vampire Baz's deep frustration to fast-talking wizard Penelope's snappy repartee, from de-magicked and be-winged Simon's formless longing to a whole bevy of American wizards, vampires, and Native-inspired creatures. Listeners will be hard-pressed to believe they aren't listening to a full-cast production." (AudioFile Earphone Award)

Great performance

The narrator is so wonderful! I can’t wait for Any Way The Wind Blows and I hope he reads that as well!

Glad I got the sequel

The first book was enjoyable but it felt a bit underwhelming plot-wise but this one was definitely better! Lots of action and the romance was clean and sweet but not suffocating the plot. Easily my fav series so far this year

Great sequel

I love Rowell. The narrator was great and did a good job shifting from voice to voice. If you enjoyed Carry On, you'll enjoy this. Be forewarned...the ending is not happily ever after.

Another Great R.Rowell Book- Just W/O Romance

Rainbow is SUCH a talented author. I can't think of another author that makes me FEEL like I'm falling in love along with the characters like she does. Her books make me melt into a puddle. Saying that- before you read- know that this book doesn't have the same romance as Carry On or her other books. The book is great- but don't read expecting a romantic plot. I do think, however, that there's a lot of set up for that romance to follow in another book. It's still worth reading if you're a Carry On fan!

Didn't expect much but I LOVED IT AT THE END!

To be honest, I had my second thoughts about this book after I finished Carry On. I was not as impressed as I thought I would be but at the end I forgot that I had pre ordered it...

Baz and Snow's mechanics and way of interacting is still as incredible and hilarious as before. I couldn't stop laughing at all the absurdity of their adventures and misadventures. Something I couldn't stop loving and enjoying was the cultural shock of Brits vs Americans. How they see each other as weird and eccentric and, at the same time, marvelous and fascinating.

Vampires and simple magic. A collateral story of a misshapen relationship and the struggle of defining who they are as beings and as a group. I honestly will be expecting the third book!

I forgot to say that that narration was super fan and enjoyable! Yes I got lost between the Baz, Simon, Penelope, Baz, Agatha... like wait slow down Haha but I loved it! The tone of voice, the characters, I could be the narrator was having as much fun as I did! Get the audio version if you can!!
