Publisher's Summary

In this debut novel and series starter, the last member of a murdered House searches for a missing nobleman, and uncovers clues about his own tortured past.

Rune Saint John, the last child of the fallen Sun Court, is hired to search for Lady Judgment's missing son, Addam, on New Atlantis, the island city where the Atlanteans moved after ordinary humans destroyed their original home.

With his companion and bodyguard, Brand, he questions Addam's relatives and business contacts through the highest ranks of the nobles of New Atlantis. But as they investigate, they uncover more than a missing man: a legendary creature connected to the secret of the massacre of Rune's Court. In looking for Addam, can Rune find the truth behind his family's death and the torments of his past?

This was such an amazing surprise!

I encourage everyone to take a chance and read this book! I didnt know what to think at first, since it was a new author, but Im so glad I got to experence this story.
The magic, characters, world, and plot were all great! I was a little confused by some of the magic and world details at first, however that didnt last long and the characters more than carried me through it.
The plot was great, and left me craving the next book. It seems like this is only the beging and I cant wait for more!!

WOW good start for a new series

Lots of characters, lots of action, a lot to keep track of. I really liked this book and it's a good start to a new series, lots of opportunity for future stories and prequels. I'm not a fan of prequels but I would be interested in knowing more of how we got to where we are in the first book. Love Josh Hurley's interruption of the characters. He gives a great performance and I'll be looking forward to hearing him again. If the second book goes to audio and he is the narrator then definitely will have another winner. Now off to buy the second installment on kindle.

Surprisingly different and chalk full of sass!

4.5 stars!

Book Content Warning: talk of past sexual assault.

This was surprisingly different and chalk full of sass! I had a lot of tropes lined up in my head for a story like this, and in steered clear of a lot of them.

The world and plot held my interest the whole time, and there wasn't any unneeded info dumping. I loved the characters and their relationships. They were all sassy, but in different ways.

I was sure this would be an mm romance between the mc and his bodyguard, but it wasn't and their friendship gave me warm and fuzzy feelings. They'll sass each other one minutes and hug the next...while sassing each other, I loved it.

Also, there was a good found family feel to it, with the all the characters which is one of my biggest weaknesses.

I eagerly await the next book.

Superb and Leaves you Wanting More

A surprisingly excellent novel. I've added this one to my list of books that I could listen to again and again. The world is well formed and doesn't overwhelm one with details about every nook and cranny. Rune is an excellent character and the author's portrayal leaves you rooting for him, while at the same time makes you wonder if there isn't a secret dark side to him that would give you pause. I'm anxious for the next book and hope that the narrator will be retained for the next one as well.

A Mishmash Genre Mess (also they say fuck a lot)

The narrator is great, he does a great job with character voices, inflection and reaction. Too bad voice talent couldn't save this book from feeling like a self insert fanfiction with irritating 2 dimensional characters who like to yell "fuck" a lot for no particular reason like middle School boys who have just started using curse words as part of their vocabulary.

Love the narration and world building

I actually picked up this audio book because of the narrator. I am a fan. I do enjoy when a fantasy story mixes with a bit of contemporary. The world of magicians and faeries has bled into regular modern day Earth. A creature has been summoned that no one thought existed and current events are ringing of a horrible memory for Rune. I liked Rune and his sarcasm. He worked for the common good, but he could be formidable. He has deep connections with his companion Brand and with Addam the man he searched for, and I'm greedy enough to want it to work for all three of them, but not sure what will be. Definitely do want to read or listen to book 2 when it comes out. Addam is found, but I think the mystery is far from over.

A wonderful, fast paced fantasy

The Last Sun is a great story full of fascinating and engaging characters. It is written in the 1st person style, told an intriguing and complex character. The writing is well done though could slow down and be more descriptive in places, it keeps interest and thrusts the reader into a world of intense magic and high-stakes battles and deep relationships. Without giving too much away, the main character's plight and relationships are beautifully done and he becomes a very sympathetic hero, though he'd probably prefer it if you didn't call him that. Certainly worth a listen, can't wait for the second book to come to print in January 2019

really good if a little "come on really!" at times

characters were a bit too deus ex machina. it seamed as if what ever they needed was always a. "well good thing I can do this, or glad i planned ahead for this very specific situation." World is cool if unexplained. I assume its an alternative timeline or something. definitely need more back story.

An amazing story and series starter!

This was a very good listen! The author did a great job with both character and world building. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Fantastic listen in both story and voice.

A fantastic example of a gay fantasy novel which does not completely revolve around the relationship aspect of the story. It builds characters which are not just important or interesting due to their sexuak orientation or their relations. This is not to say that there are no meaningful relationships or interactions between characters with Rune, Addam and Brand's relationship not being a conventional rushed sexual relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the Hanged man with bated breath.

Perfection

The story is brilliant and keeps you engaged from start to finish and I am very excited for the next book.

The narrator - I mean wow he nailed it beyond belief. He managed to give such perfect life to the characters and make some scenes cause me to laugh out loud and look weird in public.
Please use him if possible for the next book.

This is the best audible purchase I have made in my 2 years I think.

Surprisingly very good

The story was actually good, fast paced an full of action, but with enought moments to learn about the characters and connect.
The narration could have been better, sometimes it was hard to tell, which character is speaking, but other than that, I finished the book in one go and am looking forward to the next books in the series.

Unexpectedly excellent

Came across this book by happenstance, having never seen it mentioned under any recommended LGBT* book lists. Some o those lists have included some rather dire numbers in my eyes so I approached this warily. I was delighted in all the best ways. An interesting urban fantasy blend that has me hoping for more and a pleasant range of characters treated with sympathy. If nothing else I fell in love with seeing male characters in a variety of relationships (romantic and non) being allowed to have and express their feelings without shame. The friendship between Rune and his companion was particularly compelling for me and I'd like to see further exploration of how that potential power balance might effect them in the future. I will certainly be revisiting and recommending this one.
