Publisher's summary

They came to Earth - Pestilence, War, Famine, Death - four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to Earth, and they came to end us all.

The day Jerusalem falls, Miriam Elmahdy knows her life is over. Houses are burning, the streets run red with blood, and a traitorous army is massacring every last resident. There is no surviving this, especially not once Miriam catches the eye of War himself. But when the massive and terrifying horseman corners Miriam, he calls her his wife, and instead of killing her, he takes her back to his camp.

Now, Miriam faces a terrifying future, one where she watches her world burn town by town, and the one man responsible for it all is her seemingly indestructible “husband”. But there’s another side to him, one that’s gentle and loving and dead set on winning her over, and she might not be strong enough to resist.

However, if there’s one thing Miriam has learned, it’s that love and war cannot coexist. And so, she must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch humankind fall or sacrifice everything and stop him.

Good but not great

The romance felt lazily crafted. I didn’t like how War immediately sensed a connection with Miriam and their love was built from there. He knew nothing about her and yet almost from the start she was exempt from his rules or anger. Felt sloppy.

seriously, this book is outstanding. I dont know how she keeps coming up with these. they are so well put together, and the buildup to Deaths book is insane, and I cant wait!!! so theres fabulous character development, gore, death, fight scenes, hot romance and everything you come to expect from Laura Thalassa. I love this book!!! worth every penny and more! oh and the narrator- freaking fabulous!!!!

Cuts Deeply

This series has so far been excellent. They are deep, raw, emotional explorations of love and humanity/“otherness” they are by no means Quick romances. There are struggles of seemingly insurmountable differences of morality and opinion. There are lessons and losses. Each of these two books has made me feel raw at the end. But absolutely satisfied.

Loved War, Miriam was meh

I loved War, and I suppose that’s why I continued on with this story even though Miriam had me grinding my teeth. There was just something about her I didn’t like and couldn’t connect with. Either way, love this series!

Couldn’t Stand Miriam

Loved the first book. Pestilence and Sara were awesome. Love War in this book, but Miriam was so annoying with her holier than thou attitude, immaturity, and over all denseness. Was considering not finishing or going on to the third book, but the story got good at the end. Just wish Miriam wasn’t such an awful character.

Soooooo Goooood!!!

War is probably one of the best books I have ever read. I read Pestilence and loved it. I love all the Laura Thalassa books, but this one is probably my favorite. You want to hate War just like Myriam does but then you see his softer side and you can't help but fall in love with him too and his love for Myriam. I couldn't stop listening. Finished in two days. The love story is phenomenal and the chemistry is amazing!! I can't wait to read the next one. I agree that Susannah Jones voice has changed a bit, but she's still my all time favorite narrator. She just brings it to life like no other.

Why is the narrator lisping?!

I love this series. I’m just confused why the narrator lisped her way through the narration on book 2 when she didn’t in book 1. So distracting!

I thought War would never change, he's so BRUTAL!

First let me mention I have never been more attracted to a fictional character in my life! The way War is described in this . . . It's like he's the embodiment of strength, power and sexiness! I mean come on! Can't wait to start Famine to see what the 3rd installment of this series will bring . . . I'm just hoping that we get a different race for the 4th horseman.
