Publisher's summary

He’s known by many names: Thanatos. Horseman. God’s last angel. And then, of course, there's the one I’m all too familiar with...

Death.

The day Death comes to Lazarus Gaumond’s town and kills everyone in one fell swoop, the last thing he expects to see is a woman left alive and standing. But Lazarus has her own extraordinary gift: She cannot be killed—not by humans, not by the elements, not by Death himself.

She is the one soul Death doesn’t recognize. The one soul he cannot pry free from her flesh. Nor can he ignore the unsettling desire he has for her. Take her. He wants to, desperately. And the longer she tries to stop him from his killing spree, the stronger the desire becomes.

When Lazarus crosses paths with the three other horsemen, an unthinkable situation leads to a terrible deal: seduce Death, save the world. A hopeless task, made all the worse by the bad blood between her and Thanatos. But Death’s attraction to her is undeniable, and try though she might, Lazarus cannot stay away from that ancient, beautiful being and his dark embrace.

The end is here. Humankind is set to perish, and not even the horsemen can stop Death from fulfilling his final task.

Only Lazarus can.

Amazing Story, Male Narrator Ruined It

Got about 50 minutes into the audiobook and I can’t force myself to finish. LOVED the book and it is my favorite of the series, but I hate the male narration. You can tell he’s trying to make his voice so much deeper than it naturally is and it makes every sentence he reads end with an exaggerated breath. It’s so distracting. Would have been so much better to just stick with Susannah Jones reading as both Lazarus and Death.

I’m disappointed I wasted a credit, and I’m disappointed I can’t listen to this incredible book. If the sample has the male narration included maybe give that a listen first before spending a credit to see if you find it more tolerable than I could.

Amazing

As much as I hate that it's over, this book was the best closing to an amazing series, it's bittersweet. Ever since Pestilence, the first book released, I've been waiting for the story of Death and the agonizing long wait was not in vain. This book was absolute heartache and so much love all in one! You can appreciate humanity in a whole different way. Laura outdid herself with the all the Horsemen but especially with this one. I wish I could give this more than five stars.

Narration was excellent! I enjoyed every single second of it. Great job!

Brilliant ending.

This book had some really great spice. However, War by far was the spiciest for me.

I’m writing this review after I’ve read all four books. I loved them. I have read some really crappy reviews but, I think they were off. Maybe bc I’m older and a little wiser I leaned into the story. Maybe bc I’m a recent widow I connected with the story. Maybe bc I’ve read stories that were similar is why I disregarded the reviews that wrote this series off. I think the biggest reason I read them is I found that perfect love and had that kind of trust in our relationship. Oh, duh, it’s a story, it’s not a field guide to finding a date. Enjoy the ride.

FMC is super whiney

Whiney FMC. Very disappointed with the Death character development and the FMC they came up with, hoping for a stronger FMC. This could have been so much better. They never really go over what made the horsemen come. Had to push through this one, lots of eye rolling.

Great Ending to Series

This was a great way to end the series. I originally thought it was going to be the same as the others but it wasn’t.

Great finale

Loved this book and how it all came together. This was my least favorite performance by the people who read the books. The way the female ended each chapter was weird and Death was so breathy with each word when he spoke. But overall was a great series. I listened to all four in one week.

Wonderful conclusion, beautiful story

I loved these books. Pestilence was my favorite until we got to death and this one may have eclipsed it. The story was beautiful, the ending lovely, the character growth is well done, spice is good but it’s truly about the story. Definitely recommend.
