The stories were all wrong—Hook was never the villain.

For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken.

Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked.

But it’s pointless.

Because when night falls, he comes for me. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren’t willing to let me go.

NOTE: The Never King is a reimagining of Peter and Wendy. Characters have been aged up for this darker, grittier version. If you like your enemies to lovers romance with hot, ruthless, morally gray love interests, you’ll enjoy The Never King. You can expect hate kissing, fighting, bickering, and "touch her and I’ll unalive you" vibes. Book one ends on a cliff.

Although I love dark fantasy it didn’t do anything for me. The story is awkward. The spice scenes we’re medium. I struggled very much to finish the book.

Not my cup of tea

Absolutely hated that the lead female character wanted to sleep with every male that looked her way, even after meeting Peter Pan. It didn’t enhance the story. You can have dark sexual themes without turning the woman into a slut, so not sure why that was needed. If that had been removed, I would have rated this 5/5/5 and purchased the next installment. Everything else was a great dark storyline that kept me wanting to know what happened next, especially towards the end.

Very Fun and sexy re-imagining of the world of Peter Pan. The new lore created for the world ties in seemlessly with the original story. I loved how the story is told from multiple perspectives keeps things interesting. I also enjoyed how the main character is kidnapped, but doesn't really need saving, she just melts right into the dark world.

Fun and Sexy

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was definitely blown away with this story! The plot held my interest, and I immensely enjoyed the fact that we have a Darling who isn't "innocent." Winnie's character is fantastic. Get it, girllll!
The whole thing was gritty and dirty, and reminded me of the one line in the original "Peter Pan" when he said he "thins the heard" of Lost Boys who start to grow up. That one single line cast a shadow on the whole fun, innocent Peter Pan storyline for me, and I lovedddd that it was referenced in this book.
The performances were great and enjoyable to listen to.
Can't wait to dive into the second book!
