A USA Today Bestseller!

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella....

A scientist should never cohabitate with her annoyingly hot nemesis—it leads to combustion.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: When it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn….

As an environmental engineer, Mara knows all about the delicate nature of ecosystems. They require balance. And leaving the thermostat alone. And not stealing someone else’s food. And other rules Liam, her detestable big-oil lawyer of a roommate, knows nothing about. Okay, sure, technically she’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena was her mentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight.

The problem is, living with someone means getting to know them. And the more Mara finds out about Liam, the harder it is to loathe him…and the easier it is to love him.

Editor's Pick

Proud STEMinist
Ali Hazelwood’s debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, was one of my favorite listens last year, so I’m beyond thrilled I have four more chances to obsess over her words in 2022. That’s right. Four. Under One Roof, performed by Emma Wilder, kicks off a trio of STEMinist (best word ever? I think so) novellas, launching one/month for the next three months. And the real kicker is that all of them will be available in audio first! Hazelwood’s writing is smart and funny—just like her heroines. In Under One Roof we meet Mara, an environmental engineer, and I can’t wait to listen to her enemies-to-lovers journey—and feel smarter in the process. —Katie O., Audible Editor

Short and sweet.

I am invested in her next books. The narrator did great. Add another narrator please.

Only 13 chapters

I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the length of this, but I felt like I was always missing a lot.

STEM + Roommates + Steam

This novella was adorable and then STEAMY and then adorable again in the epilogue and features another adorably quirky Ali Hazelwood heroine. Hazelwood is adept at capturing highly intelligent characters who obliviously misread the cues of their love interests. Mara's internal dialogue had me chuckling and grinning. The matchmaker from the grave angle was quite fun. Even in the midst of all the adorableness, Hazelwood was able to work in discussions of climate change and the treatment of women in the workplace.

At a glance:
- Single POV
- Forced proximity
- Roommates
- Enemies to lovers
- Pining
- Open door
- Woman in STEM

Voice tanked the story.

I'm sorry, I couldn't do it. The voice actor sounded too much like a news castor from the 1940s. It made me hate the story with a burning passion.

Cute

I enjoyed reading this story. It was short but sweet and kept my interest. Sometimes I just like a short romance 3-5 hours long to listen to . I search audible for these

ITS SO GOOD!!!!

ok one thing you literally never see in romance books with characters that have outie belly buttons and I'm randomly obsessed with the fact that Ali chose to include that in this story!
plus the main characters are just *chefs kiss* fantastic! an absolute 10/10

Grumpy/Sunshine Perfection!

I saw this on my Facebook feed that the audio had released today and it was an instant download for me. I LOVED "The Love Hypothesis" and I'm so excited to have more from Ali Hazelwood. She has a knack for writing characters that you can relate to and that to me makes the book extra special.

I loved this novella. I loved smart and independent females and Mara is all of this. She's an environment engineer and loves what she does. Liam is grumpy perfection and you could see that there was a great guy underneath that just needed those layers pulled away. All the best tropes are in this novella: grumpy/sunshine, enemies to friends to lovers, and my favorite: CONSENT. God, I seriously melted every time Liam asked for consent. While the spice isn't until the end, it didn't lack in that department even if it was only one chapter. The work up to the end was so worth it and I can't recommend this book enough. Mara's friends are so much fun and I can't wait for their books next, I've already pre-ordered them.

Emma Wilder was fabulous, per the norm. I loved her narrating Mara and her male voice is always so good. If it's your first time listening to her, you would swear it's a different narrator.

Performance from Narrator

Yikes! I hate to do even this but I found myself constantly being taken out. The narrators gave this reading 100%, but everyone sounds so dour and down trodden, I found myself pausing and wanting a break from this novella... I read the love hypothesis in one sitting, and I expect to do the same with the rest of Ali Hazelwood’s work. Maybe the voice actors just aren’t for me, but the tone and stylistic choices really took me out of the story!
So, so, SO glad Ali has more books on the way!!!!

Hard to follow TLH but I enjoyed for what it is

I loved the narrator!

The story wasn't a credible setup for me, but I enjoyed once I got past that. The slow burn is slowwww which I didn't love, but for the strong foundation and pining that resulted. The steamy scenes were soooo good!
