Publisher's summary

At 38, Zavier “Cade” McCade has it all: a military career he can be proud of, a successful business, and a close-knit group of family and friends. A former Army Special Forces captain, Cade leaves the military to create Custos Securities, a burgeoning protection agency that provides unparalleled security for both civilians and corporations across the US.

After a string of disastrous relationships - and a narrow escape from an abusive partner - Braden Cross is finally putting his past to rest. Combining both his passion for baking and his knack for business, Braden owns the Sugar n' Spice Cafe with his best friend, who concocts exotic coffees and teas that pair perfectly with his decadent confections.

When a stalker sets his sights on Braden, the young pastry chef's world is turned upside down. More frightened than he cares to admit and not knowing where to turn, Braden is relieved when Cade steps in to offer his protection. Caught up in a maelstrom of threats, break-ins, and vandalism, the two draw closer together.

Braden eventually realizes he can trust Cade with his life, but he finds himself wondering...can he trust him with his heart?

Contains mature themes.

Fun characters

3.25 stars.

This was a good series starter. There were things that made me cringe like insta-love, the pet names, and the repeptition. There were things that were explained multiple times throughout the book, and it was annoying. It ends on a cliffhanger, which is the absolute worst! However, the story was interesting, and the characters were likable, if a little over the top. I'm invested enough to try the next book in the series.

Trusting Cade

I really enjoy this book and the second of the series. It’s interesting how our tastes change. This used to my one of my favorite audiobooks to listen to but this time it was a little difficult. I guess my listening tastes have changed. The narrator is very robotic sounding something I’ve never noticed before. I tried to alter the speeds but that didn’t help.

Great.

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. I Loved it, was very well written, and Tristan James did a great job at narrating it. The only hitch i had was the ending a a little abrupt, other then that a great book.

Formulaic and weirdly boring

The author introduced sooooo many plot points and the story still dragged. The pseudo psychology on abuse was also pretty crummy. Just a meh all around.

Not sure why so many like and recommend this book

I like the premise and parts of the story, but overall this is not very good writing. At times melodramatic, at times tedious in the telling and the repetition, and with a narrator not able to raise this work up and make it better than the words on the page, I had a hard time getting through. Then the cherry on top, the story just stopped. No ending. I felt like it needed “to be continued” as a tag line. So now I’m obligated to grab the next book and put myself through more of this, or just live without getting the resolution to a very unfinished storyline.

There are so many much better books out there, with better narration too. My advice is to skip this one and find one of those.

Overly sappy

I love her books but this one was so overly sappy. Braden couldn't do anything for himself. Cade and his best friend treated him like a baby. I didn't get the protection vibe at all until like around chapter 15. I get the storyline but OMG it was just too much. Of course I still listened to the majority of the book but some I just had to skip over.

It is a love at first site book but it was just too much too fast. I am hoping book 2 is better.

Oh wow

I absolutely love this book. The instant connection and protective instinct that Cade feels for Braden is so amazing. I love how they are together and the way that they get along. I really enjoy the way they come together and the way that even thought it hasn’t been that long they can read each other so well. The narrator did an amazing job with this book and I absolutely loved it.
