Publisher's summary

Life is a series of events, one leading you to another. The hell I lived through with my drug-addicted parents led me to the Marine Corps. Committing my life to my country was easy. My brothers were my family - all I had and all I needed. I wasn’t looking for her, but I should have known life had other plans.

It led me to her.

From the moment we met, I knew he was different - I just didn’t realize he'd change my life. He was a guy on leave, an acquaintance. Until he was something more, something unforgettable. I never imagined he'd leave 10 days later, taking a piece of me with him. Then again, maybe I did know. I just didn't care.

He was worth it.

Fantastic story!

This story was fantastic. I love the way Slade worked his way from having nothing to having all his wildest dreams come true.
The voice actors did a pretty good job. Not my favorite that Kaylee has had, but they did well.

This was a little personal

If you’re a military wife or girlfriend, you’ll appreciate this story in a way only we can, because it’s personal. I love how the author captures the reality of being separated from each other for long periods of time at the beginning of their relationship and having the added fear of the unknown that your loved one might get hurt in a foreign country. I completely related to all the “I love yous” Slade and Austyn exchanged before Slade’s deployment. It’s true that you just can’t say it enough and truly convey the meaning of those words. It was sweet and real although the reality is so much harder. This book definitely sparked warm and difficult memories of my Marine and myself 24 years ago!

Exceptional Story

The writer tells a story in full details as if she's lived the life from the perspective of her characters. It is the exact emotional ups and downs of a military girlfriend, wife, etc.
You will not be disappointed if you buy this book!
I hope she decides to write more similar to this one. Maybe even a series?? *hint hint I would buy them all!!

Holy cow, boring!

Writing was decent but the story was so boring! There were no solid plot points and I wanted it to be over it almost immediately! It literally made me want to fall asleep

Meh...

I think it would’ve been better had I read the book instead of listening to the audiobook. The narrators just really bothered me at times. I also wish there was a disclaimer stating this book was about such a young couple.

Excellent Story

This storyline was great. I loved how true to the military story line she stayed. The conflicts with dealing with injuries and the after math of what happens. very impress3d.

Emotional well written story

This is a beautiful YA story following Austyn and Slade. Slade is in the Marines and when he meets Austyn, the friend of his best friend, he knows she's it for him. They are both really young and in many ways, this is reflected really well by the author. Kaylee Ryan also did an amazing job reflecting the trials and tribulation of our amazing heroes in the military and the people who love them. It was a compelling, beautiful story about love and strength. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 is that I felt that the first half was a little slow. But still, this story was beautifully written. I loved Austyn's family as well, as well as their close friends. Overall, definitely a well written, emotional story.

I listened to the audiobook through audible escape when I didn't read the book through KU. It was a well narrated story although I thought Brandon Utah's female voice was a little too forced. Macy Sterling did a good job overall and I really enjoyed the narration.

The couples was too young

The storyline was a good follow if you can forget the characters are barely 18 going on 19 years old. Some parts became repetitive, making some parts drag or unnecessary. The narrators really did an excellent job!

Wowza What A Story

This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride you won't want to get off of. What would you do if you found yourself falling for a man you know you can't hold on to. This is Austin and Slade's problem. The find themselves falling but Slade is just out of basic fir the Marines. Will the find a HEA or will death do them part? Cannot say how amazing this story is. I have been a huge fan of this author's for awhile now and this story is another amazing hit. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone
