She has the keys to their apartment. She knows everything. She has embedded herself so deeply in their lives that it now seems impossible to remove her.
One of the 10 BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR of The New York Times Book Review, by the author of Adèle, Sex and Lies, and In the Country of Others

“One of the most important books of the year. You can’t unread it.”—Barrie Hardymon, NPR’s Weekend Edition
When Myriam decides to return to work as a lawyer after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their son and daughter. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic Paris apartment, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau. Building tension with every moment, The Perfect Nanny is a compulsive, riveting, bravely observed exploration of power, class, race, domesticity, motherhood, and madness—and the American debut of an immensely talented writer.

Internationally best-selling Turkish author Elif Shafak’s new novel is a dramatic tale of families, love, and misunderstandings that follows the destinies of twin sisters born in a Kurdish village. While Jamila stays to become a midwife, Pembe follows her Turkish husband, Adem, to London, where they hope to make new lives for themselves and their children. In London, they face a choice: stay loyal to the old traditions or try their best to fit in.

With its sprawling yards and excellent schools, Cottonwood Estates is the perfect place to raise children. The Cottonwood Book Club serves as the subdivision’s eyes and ears, meeting once a month for discussion, gossip, and cocktails. If their selections trend toward twisty thrillers and salacious murder mysteries, it’s only because the members feel secure that such evil has no place in their own cul-de-sacs. Or does it? What happened to Lena’s family 15 years ago was a tragic accident, and she will never admit otherwise.

Disappointing - never met its potential
This story started well but it went downhill from there. While the narration was good, the writing style did not appeal to me. I was bored after the first few chapters but persevered until the end in the hope it would improve, and I was vaguely intrigued to know what happened. But the story jumped all over the place between characters and time periods, adding to the annoying writing style, and the end was a frustrating anticlimax. The concept of the book was great, but it did not live up to its potential.

Well written and narrated but not much of a story.
Fiction has a higher bar than non-fiction. It should offer either useful or interesting information, or something to render the reader’s time well-spent.
This story offered neither..in my opinion.

A slog
I tried to make it through but just couldn’t. The narrator is fine and the only reason I tried to forge ahead. I found the story to be uninteresting(and it began with a murder!) how that becomes boring is an art in itself. Good luck!
