""If you loved Behind Her Eyes, prepare to be totally and utterly blown away by Insomnia. Sarah Pinborough is a twisted genius."" — Lisa Jewell

IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT, MADNESS LIES . . .

Emma can’t sleep.

CHECK THE WINDOWS.

It’s been like this since her big 4-0 started getting closer.

LOCK THE DOORS.

Her mother stopped sleeping just before her own fortieth birthday.

She went mad and did the unthinkable because of it.

LOOK IN ON THE CHILDREN.

Is that what’s happening to Emma?

WHY CAN’T SHE SLEEP?

""Insomnia is the twistiest and most gripping thriller since Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train, an absolute must-read for suspense fans."" — Joe Hill

Awake, asleep, or going mad?
To me, the best thrillers are the ones that get under my skin and make me think. That is exactly the state Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes left me in. The secrets, the deceptions, and a pinch of paranormal kept me attached to my headphones until the mind-blowing ending. When I saw that she was releasing a new title, I had to get my hands on it. Insomnia revolves around lawyer Emma Averell, a busy mom who is approaching her 40th birthday. As the days get closer and closer to Emma’s birthday, her behavior becomes increasingly erratic, and she begins to believe that her family is in danger—or is she the danger her family needs protection from? Insomnia is a classic example of a perfect psychological thriller. And I’ll admit I’m looking forward to staying up all night to listen. —Patty K C., Audible Editor

If you don’t mind stories that undermine the main character & everyone tries to make her feel as if she’s crazee as Alfred H did to Kim Novak then you’ll love this - I find those kind of stories “creepy” & I fast forward a lot of this book because that theme is boringly dominant till the very end … also the reasoning behind WHY , the main character was so easily fooled ( just like her Mother was ) felt pulled out of nowhere & so made it a bit unbelievable..

Alfred Hitchcock type

Just didn’t do it for me- I couldn’t buy into it that a person would be that unaware of her mental state- just too much and too many people it seemed that was crazy and why -

Alright already

Story was good, but hard to believe anyone - especially an educated lawyer - couldn't handle her reactions/actions better.

Lead character is own worst enemy

I enjoyed the story theme and build up. I got frustrated about 3/4 through because Emma, the main character and a lawyer, seemed so dumb to what was happening in her face. I kept wanting to shake her and say “wake up, you can’t be this naive!”

The climax kept me interested, plus trying to unravel the song and number hints was fun.

Interesting story but runs on

I spent a long night up listening! Couldn’t stop! Love the way the protagonists perspective and logic becomes the reader’s. I found myself asking the same questions, just a moment before she, and generally reaching the same conclusions.
One thing that drove me crazy (in a genius way) was how the crescendo built and built…. aaaand built… I felt like I was going crazy waiting for some resolution, but again, that’s the ride Emma was on, so it made total sense!! Definitely recommend.

Very good, edge of seat!

Incredible writing. I had to keep listening. All the hints and twists. Read it! You won’t be disappointed!

Wow

Entertaining overall but shifted gears entirely late in the novel and ending with something that honestly didn't actually make sense. If that bothers you, skip it. If you like an interesting story that keeps you guessing, regardless of being impossible to solve on your own, go for it!

Not the best finish.

I wanted this to be great but the book took way too long to pull me in. While the ending was exciting, interesting, and a great twist, it was overall not worth the slow build to that point in my opinion. One of those I started listening and now I have to complete it finds. The narration also was somewhat irritating which made it difficult to get into. 3/5.

Skip if you don't like slow build up.
