Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I keep seeing reviews on Audible stating "it would be nice to have the charts, forms, list, etc. the author keeps referring to". Yes they're included here! Look at your purchase list, and underneath the books that include a pdf you will find a link to click. You can then download reference material for your book. I wish Audible would do a better job showing this! Click on Library, then My books, and then look for the links underneath the book purchased.

Great book!!!! I have followed and listen to Dr. Fung for some time. Listening to him actually cured my type 2 diabetes when my regular doctor wanted to put me on insulin (which I refused). His guidance and insights have always been great and I have learned so much from both him and the several other ketogenic gurus I follow. Dr. Fung thank you for all you do.

Very informative, makes great sense. I read it in a day. Its a good reminder to eat only whole foods and new insight for me into intermittent fasting. I have always been afraid to fast for several reasons but will try now armed with this knowledge. Only negatives are that author repeats some things beyond need for comprehension and author is a touch dramatic in his reading.

My original review of this book: I suppose I can trust the information in this book, but it's a little hard to do so when the man reading it to me mispronounces everything from medical terms to food names and more. If you can't pronounce quinoa, how can you expect me to eat it? This book needed a much more literate narrator, otherwise it was OK.

My revised review of this book: Bottom line, it changed my life. Soon after reading, I decided to give this author’s plan a shot, and I finally found the way of life I’d been looking for for decades. Intermittent fasting was the answer for me!!! The only way I found the strength to do it was because I was on the verge of being put on my third diabetes medication, a once a week shot that was reportedly going to make me throw up for days. Given that as the alternative, I embarked on Dr. Fung‘s plan and within a few months I had dropped 35 lbs, completely changed my eating habits, and brought my A1C down to 5.9. That was more than a year ago, and my weight is still down, my A1 C is still good, and I’m still living the intermittent fasting lifestyle without any problems. Instead of three diabetes medications, I’m down to one, and my hope is that by the end of this year I can get off of that one too.

I still say this is one of the worst narrators I’ve ever heard, but if you can get through his mangled and painful pronunciations, it’s totally worth it. Highly recommended!!!!!!!

One last thought, I know the math of my star rankings doesn’t work (the average of 1 and 4 does not equal 5) but I’m giving it a five overall anyway because the sum is greater than its parts. The reading could’ve used a lot of help, the writing could’ve used a little help, but the message delivered overcomes them both and makes this book worth five stars and then some. Thank you Dr. Fung for changing (saving?) my life!

finally! finally a publication that explains exactly how our bodies work and respond to food and respond to lack of food and the role certain meds play in causing weight gain....I could go on and on. It's so thorough and the narrator is so great! It sounds more like you're being spoken to at a similar than read to, which I love. This book will not only give you a complete understanding of weight gain and weight loss, it will tell you how to achieve it. It will tell you how to reset your metabolism to work for you instead of against your efforts. This publication includes every peice of information that you need to know in order to lose weight and have an awesome metabolism. So glad to have read this!

After listening to several audio books on weight loss, sugar, obesity, I think this one was the best overall summary of the things I have learned. This book brought everything I have learned from the other books together in a way that makes sense and offers a plan for how to bring weight down. He gives a solution of intermittent fasting to decrease insulin resistance which I plan to try immediately. There is an appendix on how to begin fasting with detailed instructions and information on what to expect.

The narrator was good and not as dry as what I am used to hearing, which made the book easier to listen to. On the contrary, the long pauses were often frustrating to me because I was anxious to hear what was next. Plus, my aux cord has a short in it so I was never sure if the cord needed to be wiggled or if this was another dramatic pause.

My third comment is that Fung must not have had a good editor. There are so many times where he repeats himself over and over. Oftentimes, he repeats himself verbatim within the same chapter.

Between the narrators long pauses and the repetition, this audiobook was probably an hour or more longer than it should have been. That said, I still consider it well worth my time.

Great guide to weight loss! Get ready for dramatic pauses, though!

This book is an invaluable resource for no-nonsense, factual information about why and how obesity develops, how and why the condition of obesity is difficult to overcome, and the truth about how to seek and attain treatment for obesity and obesity adjacent conditions. No fat shaming, no unscientific snake oil, no ridiculous claims.

I've often appreciated Fung's contributions in the world of health advancement through fasting and food choices. Now I have read his breakthrough book and I was not disappointed.

If you've had years of being fed misinformation about obesity and obesity adjacent conditions and don't know how to separate fact from fiction, this is a good resource.

If you've "tried everything" but still find yourself "failing" at your goals, this book may help you understand why it feels like your body is working against you.

If you are experienced and knowledgeable about nutrition and fitness but always seeking more information, you absolutely HAVE to add Dr. Fung's work to your library.

repetitive and slow to begin with, the last chapter if the book is most informative. narrator has slight lisp, but not monotone and easy to listen to.
