Publisher's summary

With Randidly Ghosthound's help, humanity has withstood the first impact of the System.

Old institutions are re-erected as the Zones settle into new normalcy, characterized by the enthusiastic application of the scientific method to System principles and the stubborn return of pop culture and consumerism.

Yet these familiar edifices of stability conceal an altogether new breed of monster. One that bears the face of a human but the beating heart of a horror.

Randidly continues to investigate the mysterious Father Foster, the central figure of the rapidly expanding Unity Church. Although the religious organization speaks loudly about its many philanthropic pursuits, a closer inspection reveals a more sinister motivation.

Just when Randidly thinks he has a handle on the situation, old debts come due: he must return to Tellus to assist his spear teacher Shal. What he finds there is a reignited war with an army of replaceable automatons, a weaponized and manipulated version of the Forsaken Hunger Tide. The defensive lines of the Spearman School are in a state of collapse, with the other Schools' curiosity apathetic to the threat.

From the front lines of the bloody conflict, Randidly can witness the real costs of dragging his feet in the face of the Calamities that the System throws against unsuspecting planets…

Fun continuation of the story

Story has multiple side plots and is not just one linear, flat story. Good job.

This was A crazy Twist!

Man oh man reading from book 1 to finishing this one what a crazy ride! This book truly gave me pause because it made me hold my head and say “what just happened!” Now I can’t wait for the next book to drop because i got some questions that hopefully the next book will answer for me!

Character development

I will start this off with this is one of my favorite series I’ve listened too period. I hope the author reads this to see and know how much i love this series and look forward to the next book. I’m a very logical person and there’s many things that i love about this series. This book in particular tho i had a few issues with that the past books didn’t have. First issue is the randidly’s soul skill. I love the concept but the complete negligence of it makes no sense to me. He has felt the pain of his souls skill before why does he all of a sudden not understand it? Also the fact he just doesn’t check on it at all just doesn’t make sense. Time moves differently in his souls skill so even if he checks on it for an hour hardly any time at all would’ve passed so he had so many chances to just peak i mean it’s a huge part of him and his class in my opinion he wouldn’t ignore that because of how important it is to his future growth. His master shal and randidly have a weird relationship but shal ignoring him completely for a whole book while he’s in his world makes very little sense. Last are the new side stories. I know they will matter later down the line of the story but it’s the legend of randidly ghost hound not legend of side stories. To much time spent on them in my opinion and not enough on randidly himself.

Now that i got the bad out i want to talk about the good. The story was executed amazingly in this book just like the rest i loved it i have lots of opio ions on things i wish was done differently but the new way of groaning the characters is genius. I genuinely love these characters and the mixture of action, love, comedy and how it all meshes together. Like i said i love this series and look forward to the next book keep going! Release them faster!!(not at the cost of ur health tho) good luck

Not enough progression!!

Was a well written, well performed book, but considering how long this book was the progress just wasn’t enough… I still love the series. I just hope the next book comes quickly! The only thing I would say to change is the please find a way to shorten the reading of his status screen from 7 to 10 minutes worth of skills and status.

Another good one

It ended right when it got really good. Can’t wait for the next one. There’s some slow spots but overall still good. It also gives more background on what’s going on in the world as a whole/with the others in the story. I really appreciate that.

Primer

Great book. Always enjoy the writing, the awkwardness. It did feel like this book is setting up several large battles and calamities. More of a Primer to what is coming. Can’t wait!

Absolutely epic!

Throughout the book, the action and fighting scenes are well-written, with detailed descriptions that allow me to visualize the combat and feel the tension and excitement. Please reduce the number of perspectives. Ghosthound is where I would like the story to stay. You definitely have me hooked!

Filler

So I really like this series, but this installment while a good length didn’t move the story forward in my opinion. It felt kind of disjointed jumping between characters in a way that distracted from the main story. You probably could cut a third of this book out and still follow along. Then it falls into the trope of the MC is getting too strong so let’s mess with his abilities and the end with a cliffhanger.

Depth of the story and how characters change.

Love these books. Especially how Randidly is always facing no win situations and in most cases he can overcome with all the power he has gained but more importantly how in the other cases he overcomes by losing and learning.

Good series overall but...

...there's just too many ancillary characters. I think checking in with some is a good way to keep tabs on what's happening elsewhere but they're becoming too involved and doesn't really focus on characters that have been present throughout the entire series.

Also, supposedly some major things happen in this volume but it doesn't really feel like that, several large multibook build ups just sort of resolve anticlimactically.

And finally, it's probably just a personal preference but this new teenage character that cowardly and whiny but supposedly a darkhorse vigilante is annoying and way too much time is spent on him and his little coming of age drama.

I'm starting to not really understand who the audience for this book is anymore, feels like the author is trying to turn the series into all things for readers which doesn't seem loke such a good idea.

I hope the next book gets back into the groove otherwise I may not be able to continue the adventure with Randidly :(
