Are you a highly sensitive person? Here's the essential course to thrive in the world.
Are you sensitive to bright lights, loud noises, strong smells, or coarse fabrics?
Do other people’s moods and needs strongly affect you?
On busy days, do you ever wish you could withdraw to a quiet, private place?
Are you deeply moved by the arts or music?
Do you have a rich inner life?
If so, you may be an HSP.
In her groundbreaking 1996 book The Highly Sensitive Person, Dr. Elaine Aron first brought the trait to light, validating the unique lives of one-fifth of the population.
With this in-depth audio learning program - taught by Elaine herself, a fellow HSP - she invites us to learn the full scope of what we now know about high sensitivity, including many new research findings and life strategies.
Join her to explore:
- What high sensitivity is
- How to assess if you're an HSP
- Compelling research
- The five key needs of HSPs
- Self-care essentials for thriving in our overstimulating world
- Succeeding in intimate relationships and at work
- Supporting the highly sensitive child
- And much more...
"High sensitivity is neither a disorder nor a reason to brag," Elaine Aron makes clear. "It's an asset that we need to protect and use." With this immersive learning experience, she offers an essential, in-depth resource to help us do so.

Being a highly sensitive person means you’re probably highly misunderstood and you may feel like you’re too empathetic for your own good. Your intuition and empathy create situations where you always put others first and say “yes” to everything, regardless of how you feel or what you need. As a result, you end up in unhealthy relationship dynamics that leave you exhausted, resentful, and stressed.

Statistics show that 50 percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the 20 percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Everyone has a sensitive side, but nearly one in three people have the genes to be more sensitive than others—both physically and emotionally. These are the people who pause before speaking and think before acting; they tune in to subtle details and make connections that others miss. Whether introverted or extroverted, they tend to be bighearted, creative, and wired to go deep, yet society tells them to hide the very sensitivity that makes them this way. These are the world’s “highly sensitive people,” and Sensitive is the book that champions them.

Empaths not only sense other people’s emotions, but also absorb them - sometimes to their own disadvantage, often leading to overwhelming sensory overload and feelings of confusion or low self-esteem. Their willingness to help and please others might make them prey to opportunists or cause them to give away more energy than they can afford.

"Having empathy means our heart goes out to another person in joy or pain," says Dr. Judith Orloff. "But for empaths, it goes much further. We actually feel others' emotions, energy, and physical symptoms in our own bodies, without the usual defenses that most people have." The Empath's Survival Guide is an invaluable resource for empaths who want to develop coping skills in a high-stimulus world while embracing their gifts of intuition, compassion, creativity, and spiritual connection.

If you're a highly sensitive person (HSP), you're in good company. HSPs make up some 20 percent of the population, individuals like you who both enjoy and wrestle with a finely tuned nervous system. You often sense things that others ignore such as strong smells, bright lights, and the crush of crowds. Even the presence of strangers in your immediate vicinity can cause you considerable distraction.

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Yet despite its wide acceptance, most of the writing on the topic has been obscured behind clinical texts and scientific jargon.

At least one out of four people prefers to avoid the limelight, tends to listen more than they speak, feels alone in large groups, and requires lots of private time to restore their energy. They're introverts, and here is the book to help them boost their confidence while learning strategies for successfully living in an extrovert world. After dispelling common myths about introverts-they're not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - The Introvert Advantage explains the real issues. Introverts are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation - chitchat, phone calls, parties, office meetings - can easily become "too much."

The Empath's Survival Guide is an invaluable resource for empaths who want to develop coping skills in a high-stimulus world while embracing their gifts of intuition, compassion, creativity, and spiritual connection.

As enjoyable as a silk comforter
I love this book and its minute breaks to contemplate! I felt like Elaine was in my living room with me.
After listening, I quickly recommended it to several relatives.
I have enjoyed reviewing the notes I took while listening the first time. A day later, I am already listening to it again.
I now can relax and be happy just being me and look at my past with a new understanding. Life is good.

Very thorough and detailed account of HSP
I found it validating the highly sensitive traits without creating a sense of superiority. I would recommend it to anyone who “ feels and cares “ too much”.

Highly Sensitive People— you need to hear this!
While the presentation of statistics and information from studies may get a bit monotonous at times while listening to hours of this audiobook, trust me— if you are a highly sensitive person, you should set aside the time to listen to this. You will feel validated, understood, and you will walk away with some practical ideas of how to improve the quality of your life, including your relationships and your job, as a person who deeply processes everything and tends to get overstimulated easily, requiring you to isolate yourself from others often. If you thought something was wrong with you because you needed so much alone time or have been struggling in over-committing at work or by empathizing too much with needy people, well,... you will find that 15- 20% of the population has this trait, and you are not alone! This audiobook offers great research and hope for the future for HSP. I highly recommend.

This Is Life Changing
For those with the trait, this book is game changing. It’s a lot of information to get through, but so much of it inspired light bulb moments. I will probably listen to it again. I feel like I actually have a road map now. Before this book, I kept running into energetic land mines I couldn’t explain. She explains them all here. I appreciated Dr Aron’s calm direct delivery. I found it relaxing. Thank you for devoting 25 years to this topic, Elaine Aron! You have helped so many.

Loved it all but the stop & think chime
This is all me and I really appreciate it but she has to know that chime is WAY TOO LOUD for any HSP around right? It drove me nuts the whole book!

Highly recommended listening
Probably one of my top 10 books of all time. So many deep insights into myself, my family and others around me.
Very thoughtful, balanced and well-researched writing, making everything clear and concise. Narration is excellent and personal too, though I found it necessary to speed it up to 1.35x to a comfortable listening speed for me.
Negatives included the bell for reflection times, which was way too loud and jarring and I came to dread it and it distracted from being able to reflect. Also, the section on spiritually for was unhelpful for me. The positives vastly outweighed the negatives, however.
Wish I could encourage all my friends and family to read it!
