Publisher's Summary

An introduction to the spiritual source of the beliefs and practices that have so profoundly shaped African American religious traditions.

Most of the Africans who were enslaved and brought to the Americas were from the Yoruba nation of West Africa, an ancient and vast civilization. In the diaspora caused by the slave trade, the guiding concepts of the Yoruba spiritual tradition took root in Haiti, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States.

In this accessible audio introduction, Baba Ifa Karade provides an overview of the Yoruba tradition and its influence in the West. He describes the 16 Orisha, or spirit gods, and shows us how to work with divination, use the energy centers of the body to internalize the teachings of Yoruba, and create a sacred place of worship. The audiobook also includes prayers, dances, songs, offerings, and sacrifices to honor the Orisha.

The Handbook of Yoruba Religious Concepts is skillfully narrated by Camille Mazant, with guidance from the author.

Excellent Introduction

The narration was elegant and clear. The content was sufficient for a novice and also in depth enough to penetrate a deeper understanding of the religious and cultural practices.

Only critique is a lack of a pdf containing the various charts and tables depicting Orishas, different traditions and their focus, Ifa divination, etc.

Otherwise, exceptional and straightforward.

Yoruba not others Religions

why does the author feel the need to include/ validate yoruba writing and compare to the Christian Judeo religions! A reader of thi s book clearly is interested in divination so why also write Biblical proverbs and read them?!! The reader butchered pronunciation of so words even common words!! AND some of the divination Info is incorrect

Poor reading.

The Author of this book should have recorded the audio. This reader is not familiar with the words and concepts at all. She made this great book sound awful to listen to.

Good,but…

I value the information provided. However, other books that I’ve purchased through Audible offer a free download when the book references diagrams and other information.
