Publisher's Summary

Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives - predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning - and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development...

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something - and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

She did it again!

A. R. Torre did it again! I preordered this book in April and have been impatiently waiting for what seemed like 3 years (which in reality was only 3 months). It was well worth the wait! She did not disappoint! I do not consider myself to be a qualified writing critic at all. I do listen to 2-4 audible books/week though (I listen while I’m at work as well as while I do house and farm chores), so I do have a lot to compare to. I judge a book by its ability to keep my attention and this book really kept my attention! I loved the plot, good twists, great narration and a bit of naughty fun, what more could you ask for?!? Well worth the credit!

Had great potential

If only the psychiatrist were an adult and not so annoying! All she can think of is having sex with a man who hired her for a profile? Really?

Tantalizingly Good

This story played into my morbid obsession with serial killers and previous ambition to be a psychological profiler. From the beginning, A Good Lie had me questioning everything, knowing the lie was coming. Mixed with the steamy, sexual tension between the main characters, I devoured this one quickly.
Torre has a way of using every piece of her stories by the end, no moment left unaccounted for as she eloquently connects all the pieces.

narrator could have been better

the narrator didn't change her voice enough between characters and made it difficult to remember who was speaking.

Wow…what a mind meld!

Psychiatrist Gwen Moore is guilt stricken when she learns of the deaths of a patient and his wife…especially when she had been treating the patient for his murderous thoughts towards his wife. The spotlight is quickly moved to the survivor of a serial killer dubbed the Bloody Heart Killer. When a one night stand turns out to the the father of a victim, Gwen is intrigued. She’s even more so when he, who is a well known legal defender, takes on the alleged killer as his client…as the story takes shape, we are left to wonder about the true identity of the killer. Great ending.

Best Thriller in the Past Decade

Torre has crafted a tightly-woven, gripping thriller. With twists at every turn, I couldn’t put this down. The pacing is perfect; the writing brilliant.

Sweet Turbulent Torture

This story flat-out vexed me. If I had to put it down, it bothered me until I could pick it up again. There is so much here--and it's all as convoluted as a bowl of spaghetti. Holy marinara.

Everyone's got a secret...or twelve. Amazingly, no one wants to share those secrets. Go figure. Some things should never see the light of day. But those secrets make a horrific tale purely mind-blowing as the tapestry begins unraveling. I find it hard to get set the stage without giving things away, so I won't. But the plot is solid, the characters are intriguing, and the story line is completely mesmerizing.

Readers will find some strong language, passionate scenes, and definite 18+ themes (including kidnapping and murder of teenagers). If these aren't a problem for you, then I suggest you set aside some time for this intricate tale. Once you start, you won't want to stop until you've unearthed its brilliantly disturbing conclusion!

Disappointing

I really couldn't stand this plot. I normally love AR Torre's books but this plot sensationalised really perverse crimes. It didn't feel right.
The characters were annoying, there wasn't one great character to hold onto.
The narration was good however and kept me going till the end.

I’m not sure why the other name said it was a brilliant stories. Still as he said he wasn’t a book reader. Where as I am so this was disappointing and nothing to write home about.
