Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Story
Seventy-five years ago, the dragons fell from the sky. We thought they were just meteorites - six terrifying explosions rang the world like a bell. When the dust settled, we went on with our lives as though nothing had happened. More than a decade later, five of the eggs hatched. The dragons that emerged were small and weak. They kept to the shadows, working in secret to persuade people to do their bidding, offering magic as payment and reward. Years passed...and still we didn't notice the evil growing in our midst.

Zen is a practitioner—one of the fabled magicians of the Last Kingdom. Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's summary
The internationally best-selling fantasy sensation is back with brand-new stories set in the world of Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle!
A wanderer and a cursed child. Spells and magic. And dragons, of course. Welcome back to the world of Alagaësia.
It's been a year since Eragon departed Alagaësia in search of the perfect home to train a new generation of Dragon Riders. Now, he is struggling with an endless sea of tasks: constructing a vast dragonhold, wrangling with suppliers, guarding dragon eggs, and dealing with belligerent Urgals and haughty elves. Then a vision from the Eldunarí, unexpected visitors, and an exciting Urgal legend offer a much-needed distraction and a new perspective.
This volume features three original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure. Included is an excerpt from the memoir of the unforgettable witch and fortune-teller Angela the herbalist...penned by Angela Paolini, the inspiration for the character herself!
Relish the incomparable imagination of Christopher Paolini in this thrilling new collection of stories based in the world of the Inheritance Cycle.
Featured Article: The top 100 series of all time
The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Brock, the roguishly handsome son of merchants, is confident he'll be welcomed into the ranks of the Merchants Guild. But just as it seems the boys' dreams have come true, their lives take a startling turn...and they find themselves members of the perilous Adventurers Guild.

Great story. Was hooked.
I really enjoyed these stories. The story about the worm dragon had me so involved. This made my commutes fly by. I was do sad when it ended.

It's like going home
I've missed these books so much. It's like being home again. I'm so glad Christopher Paolini is writing in Alegasia again!

Amazing glimpse back into Alagaësia
Fantastic short stories starting 3 months after Inheritance. This is not book five, but it makes waiting for the next book even more exciting. I worried there would be a disconnect between these books and the old ones, not so. Angela is just as witty and confusing. Eragon has been humbled due to his past but clearly has more to learn. I'd reccomend this to anyone who has read the Inheritance cycle. However this book should not be read if you haven't finished the first four books.

an incredible book
I am a huge fan of the inheritance cycle by Christopher paolini and have been for ages I was first introduced to eragon in my second year of high school if I remember right and loved it from the start this though a little short for my taste was a great sequel to The inheritance cycle and I can't wait to read what Christopher publishes next.

Another great book by Christopher
I loved the Eragon books and this is no different. Just another great addition to the story. Waiting patiently for book 5 of the novels...
