Publisher's Summary

From the world’s number one body-language expert* comes the essential audiobook for decoding human behavior.

“The ultimate body language reference. I’ll be both referring to and recommending this book on a daily basis for many years to come.” (Amy Cuddy)

Joe Navarro has spent a lifetime observing others. For 25 years, as a special agent for the FBI, he conducted and supervised interrogations of spies and other dangerous criminals, honing his mastery of nonverbal communication. After retiring from the bureau, he has become a sought-after public speaker and consultant and an internationally best-selling author. Now, a decade after his groundbreaking book What Every BODY is Saying, Navarro returns with his most ambitious work yet. The Dictionary of Body Language is a pioneering “field guide” to nonverbal communication, describing and explaining the more than 400 behaviors that will allow you to gauge anyone’s true intentions.

Moving from the head down to the feet, Navarro reveals the hidden meanings behind the many conscious and subconscious things we do. Listeners will learn how to tell a person’s actual feelings from subtle changes in their pupils; the lip behaviors that betray concerns or hidden information; the many different varieties of arm posturing, and what each one means; how the position of our thumbs when we stand akimbo reflects our mental state; and many other fascinating insights to help you both read others and change their perceptions of you.

Listeners will turn to The Dictionary Body Language again and again - a body-language bible for anyone looking to understand what their boss really means, interpret whether a potential romantic partner is interested or not, and learn how to put themselves forward in the most favorable light.

Wonderful guide! This is not a narrated story-time.

This book starts from the top of the human body and down, and goes point by point. This is great if you are the kind of person who just needs the straight facts. Though you can’t see the photos from the book, you can get a very clear understanding from the description of each behavior. Narrator is great, understood every word perfectly and very well-paced. Thanks!

Better in print

Content and delivery is fine- but difficult to listen to because of a list format instead of conversational format.

Very informative! Organized from head to toe, so to speak.

While this book makes more sense as a paperback, easy to access (like a dictionary) when you have a particular need, it is still worth a listen. The information is great. Once you hear it, you will know if investing in a hard copy is for you.

The book is well read, in a pleasant voice and pace. Of course you may pause at anytime to practice a movement of make a note. I found rewinding tricky.

The information is presented top down. So you learn all about the head snd facial expressions (brow, ears, nose, mouth) before moving to the hands, body and feet.

I gave it a 5 start for story even though there is no story plot. It held my interest for the 3 plus hours i listened. Each description was clear and the author included context or an explanation when appropriate.

A good book to listen and learn.

I found this book very informative and useful for both my own self awareness and understanding the people I interact with daily. I intend on reviewing this book again and hope to strengthen my knowledge of the body language. The overall experience was nice but I felt that there were times when there was a description/picture that needs to be seen in order to understand more fully what is being taught. it may be more beneficial to have a hard copy of the book handy as you listen to this audio version.

Completely changed the game!

I THOUGHT I knew how to read body language, but this takes it to a whole new level and really sticks with you! The audio descriptions are very detailed and help you to dig into your past experiences for a lightbulb moment that you didn't realize you missed.

This has been SO helpful in helping to detect power, deception and true intentions (in work life and in personal relationships).

I have been bragging on Joe Navarro and allllll of his books over the past few years. What Every Body is Saying was the first one I read (also A+), but I love the layout of this one because I can quickly go in and reference whichever section of the body I am needing to decode by skipping forward in the chapter index.

It's crazy how subtle body movements can mean so much and holds to be so true in real life. This has been completely invaluable for me and will forever recommend all of his books.
